Default Canceled the P365 order. I'll stick with the Shield

After reading all the **** about the P365 having issues too many to list here, I canceled my pre-order and will stick with the Shield (first generation). Why? Because if I'm betting my life on something, I want there to be absolutely ZERO DOUBT about its function and dependability.
I carried a Beretta 96D and then two different Sig P226 weapons before I retired. The Beretta was a piece of total junk and the 226's were tack drivers. I'm sure the P365 will be much better in the future but for now, I'll stick with what I know: Thousands of rounds fired through the Shield with ZERO weapon malfunctions.

IMO, when you add up reliability, durability, conceal-ability, safety, aftermarket accessories, warranty, customer service, and PRICE, Shield is the best CCW single-stack on the market.

I’ve got more rounds through my two P365’s in the last 3 months than I do through my very early (May 2012) Shield. They are incredibly much better shooters than my Shield and haven’t had any issues.

I would sell the Shield but I’d lose money so now it serves as a stash gun. There’s nothing wrong with it; it’s just not as good of a gun for me.

I love my Shield. I'm curious about the Sig but not that curious.

I have 1600 flawless rounds through my P365 so far. Love the gun so much I'll be picking up another. Haven't really shot my Shield's much since I got the Sig.

.40 Shield, for me, is the optimal balance of concealability, ballistic performance, magazine capacity and reliability.
Anything else is either less concealable, less ballistic performance, less magazine capacity or less reliable.

There are two things that could be better: Double stack 40 Shield, or .40 chambering for P365. I eagerly await them.

On occasion, I when like to consider visual aesthetics, then the .45 ss lightweight Defender gets the nod. On occasion, I like to have more ballistic performance and more magazine capacity, then the G29 gets the nod. When I sometimes prefer just more capacity, G27 gets the nod

But, for basic, common sense optimal balanced concealed carry, 40 Shield is the cats meow for me.

I love my 1st gen Shield too, it's what I presently carry. But there is still room for my Sig P365.

The gun I'm waiting for is the Shield M3.0. I think it will put together the best points of the Shield M2.0 and the Sig P365.

I was super excited about the 365 when it first came out. I went to my local gun store to hold one and it felt good in the hand compared to my shield. But after watching Tim From MAC on YouTube, I think SIG has a lot of work to do before I consider replacing my shield.

Double stack .40 shield = M&P .40 compact? A little thicker, but could be a good match for you if you like the platform!

I liked my 9mm Shield so much I found a 40 Shield today, haven't shot it yet but I think I'm going to like it. Used 40s in like new condition can be had right now for about 1/2 the cost of a new one.

I recently bought a sig P365. Mine has a June 20 born on date. This is a much better shooting gun than my Shield, but I'm still carrying my shield until I've put enough rounds through the sig to feel confident in it's reliability. So far it's flawless. I agree with previous posts about the shield being reliable, so it's still my edc until the sig proves itself over a longer period.

First production run glitches aside, hey it happens, I've no doubt the P365 will be a long term best seller for Sig. If I wasn't already heavily Shield & Glock supplied in the Sub-9mm category I'd get a P365. "If" needed, Sig has good after purchase customer service.

I'm glad I pounded tens of thousands of worry free rounds thru my out-of-the-box Colt Government Models and Smith & Wesson Revolvers before the age of social media appeared to tell me how inadequately armed I was and how unreliable they both are...LOL

Not that much bigger

In my hands it's more ergonomic than my P365 and I like the grip texture more. Except for the very long pre travel the trigger is actually pretty nice. With 1K+ trouble free rounds the trigger is actually smoother than any of my 2.0 pistols before installing Apex kits. I actually like the trigger more than any of my Glocks too.

I’m at 1500 flawless rounds through the 365. Size wise it can’t be beat. Of course some people are more comfortable with fuller size guns.

At $599 the P365 is over double what I paid for my Shield. That gun would have to jump off the table and clean itself before I would even consider it. Even at twice the price, something about the 365 looks cheap to me. And I don't mean the cheap internals from India.

My p365 was $499 like most others and it’s a better shooter and holds a lot more rounds than my Shield. I put night sights on my Shield for another $100 and you’re at the price of the p365. If they can get the quality control fixed the 365 it too if it’s class.

Overall M&P is my favorite line of pistols though. I’m carrying the M&P 2.0 compact 3.6 inch as we speak.

Good decision on the Shield. I have two--9 and 45 -- both great pistols.

Not arguing, but I don't know what happened to your Berettas before you got them as carry weapons, but I have two and both are tack drivers. Mine were new ones that I bought and were SA/DA. I know there are DAO models which can suck, but I couldn't have had a more accurate or dependable full-sized pistol.

I've had the Shield 9 the longest, and still reach for it when I go out. What would I change? A few more rounds, and a little easier to rack (my 70 year old, arthritic thumbs).

I bought the P365 in May. I'm ready to start carrying it now. It's a much better gun than a lot of folks realize. That doesn't mean I'll sell the Shield. It's a great gun, and I'll keep it.

As for the M&P 9 Compact. Academy had two sales, and S&W had a $50 rebate. For $351 +Tax, I really couldn't walk away from it. It could make a heckova truck gun.

I don't really feel like making arguments as to which is best. I like all three. I suppose I will have to bump a couple of other guns out of the safe. But I intend to keep the three I just mentioned.

Picked up a Shield EZ 380 on Friday at a price too great to pass up. Pleasantly surprised by how well it shoots (1 inch spread for first 8 rounds fired at 7 yards). Fired 200 rounds with only two ejection failures (both my fault). Best part, my wife can actually pull the slide to chamber a round, which she can't do with her Glocks and Sigs (she changes mags before shooting the last round).

Question

I do feel bad for all those who bought a after market striker for $100. after Sig proclaimed the striker was a non-issue but a small bad batch.

However the next batch of P365's will have a new striker, however it wont fit the current P365's unless the slide is also modified, so I wonder if Sig will have a "Recall" Voluntary Upgrade or not but I doubt that!

Wonder what if anything is being done about the trigger bar/spring issue?

They still have not been able to fix the issues with the Military P320's of which there are many and internally those guns are very different from the Civilian models!

Even poe performance as much as he loved it sold his P365.....1700 flawless rounds thru it...but as he came to learn....even it is not a proven platform and he can't trust it for the long term....

Had shield's since they came out....added the magguts +2 spring system to all the 8 round mags...carries quietly, minimal weight, shoots great, and never had a problem with 3 of them....2 9's and a 45.....

I am a believer.......but that's not to say in 1 year or so the Sig platform will not improve and the manufacturing and quality control can correct the catastrophic failures of the gen-2 365...but they are not there yet.....would not want to risk my life on that weapon at the current level...........

Just ordered some Magguts for my 8 rd Shield mags, the reviews are excellent on them but they have only been around about 1 1/2 yrs.

Magguts had a recall in late 2016 on their 1st gen. but since then have heard of no issues!

Currently have the Strike EMP's on both 7 & 8 rd. mags and is fine in the 7 rd. but just to long & ugly on the 8 rd. mag.

I can't imagine Sig not getting a handle on the issues. There's just too many problems right now.

Here's a true confession of an S&W revolver lover. I looked closely at the Shield when it came out but didn't see any advantage over the Kahr K9, P9, and PM9s that I own and carried. When the P365 came out I saw definitive advantages in that it holds 10 or 12 rounds and I shoot them (I now have 2 P365s) better. The P365 also fits the Kahr K9 holster and I've had no problems. Sorry S&W. I do wish Springfield had come out with it.

Not very comforting is it? Anything can fail but I'm sure not trusting any weapon with as many issues as they've had.

Sig is wanting to use the civilian internals on the P320 MHS guns instead of the Military internals, which are way different than the civi guns !

Default Both are great guns

I've been extremely happy with my S&W Shield PC 9mm, and I alternate carry between that and a Model 642...both fit right into the side pocket of my shorts or slacks (mostly shorts down here in balmy Florida!) in a Malabar Gunleather bullhide or Sticky pocket holster. I also AIWB carry the Shield in a Crossbreed Appendix holster. The two pistols are not much different in size, but I will admit that the Shield fits my hand a little better. I have looked seriously at a SIG P365, mostly because of the smooth trigger and double-stack magazine. Unfortunately, no one around here can get their hands on one either in a shop or at a gun show. The back-order list at most lgs is 60+, and S&W is only shipping ~4/month to each shop.

I've been shooting my Ruger SR9Cs for years, zero failures, better triggers than Glocks IMO.

After recent tries with a Beretta Brigadier and a big CZ (not CCW guns, I fully recognize) which were reliable but guns I had no love for, I've gotten rather turned off about trying new semi autos.

In the hand the 365 doesn't seem all that much smaller than my Rugers, if I can conceal the 365, I can conceal the Ruger. So that and the horror stories of primers being slashed, I'm not buying one.

Since I'm on a S&W forum, I do have a few months old M&P9 2.0 with the 5" barrel and I really like it. And yeah, a bit contradictory with paragraph #2. Don

This may not be a consideration for a lot of others, but for me one big consideration when considering a gun to buy is the warranty and customer service record of the company. Obviously I also research the gun itself to see if there are issues popping up, but if not, I feel very confident in buying a S&W or Ruger gun, since they both offer lifetime warranty (yes, I know Ruger is more of a lifetime service policy) and excellent customer service, so if there is a problem I count on them to fix it. In fact, I've come to the point in my life where I won't buy a gun made by any company that doesn't offer a lifetime warranty and excellent customer service...unless I buy it from Gun Genie, which provides its own lifetime warranty.

That's just me, though...not saying everyone should feel this way.

The p365 is to small for my hands and with all the issues I will stick with the shield. 2k rounds without issues.

If you took a Sig, Shield, Glock, Springfield and any other brand now on the market and ran 10000 rounds through each of them, the failure rate would be the same. The biggest problem I see is someone buys a gun and they put a box or two through it and then form an opinion. A carry gun needs at least 500 rounds through it before it can be considered broken in for defensive carry. Most modern guns on the market today use basically the same manufacturing techniques. Quality control goes up and down for every gun maker. For the most part, problems and accolades exist mainly in the eyes of the beholder. Perception is reality.

Default "NEVER GIVE UP"???

It appears you have made a decision based on interweb info, without the gun ever reaching YOUR hands. With the reliability parameters you mentioned, I'm surprised you didn't pick a revolver. NOT SAYING your decision is right OR wrong, Just unexpected given your handle. I BELIEVE there is NO single correct choice for EVERYONE.

I just bought my first Sig. A P238 HD, all stainless version of the pocket 380.

It's a proven design that's been around for a while.

I may get a P365 is a few years, but I'll let other people debug them first.

Currently have the Strike EMP's on both 7 & 8 rd. mags and is fine in the 7 rd. but just to long & ugly on the 8 rd. mag.

Got my Magguts +2 for my Shield today and installation was simple, but after install was complete used a mag loader to load it and as soon as I pushed down to load 1st rd. the front of the follower popped up and was ready to come out (many say it does this if empty and u push rear of follower, so load 1st rd. manually) loaded fine and I shot 2 mags with 0 issues!

The parts, spring etc... all well made but I think follower should be longer in front so it wont pop out, had been using the Strike EMP's + 2 on both my 7 & 8 rd. mags and they work great, but the 8 rd mag with the EMP is very "Ugly and long" looking but the 7 Rrd. EMP looks and feels great they were about $14. compared to $33. for a Maggut.

The Maggut makes my 8rd. 1/4 longer then the regular 8 rd. but looks and feels great compared to the EMP 8 rd. +2 its 1/2" shorter, the Maggut on the 8 rd. mag is the same length as the EMP on the 7 rd. mag but the EMP is 1/16" longer in front since baseplate is curved in front and about 1/16" wider on sides since EMP has scallops on sides.

I have no idea how well the Magguts "Leaf Springs" will hold up over time?

On a side note Tim on MAC said he uses Magguts on his PPS, which really doesn't mean much since he carried and was bragging for over 1 yr. how great the H&K VP9 was before he bad mothed it!

My wife and I recently traded in our 12 year old M&P9 compacts for two Sig P-365's. We have had them now for about 3 months, and fired close to 1000 rounds through each of them without one failure. Frankly, it's a much more accurate shooter than my 9c ever was, even with the Apex trigger update. With the 12 round magazine it carries the same amount of rounds as the 9c, but with the same size as my 642.

Nothing is perfect. When I bought a Shield when they first came out it went back to S&W for multiple problems, my wife had to send her new Ruger LCP back for a recall and FTE failures, and my new $1000 Springfield 1911 had to go back for a broken barrel lug.

The 365 is a great carry gun and I don't regret buying one....actually two.

How does the Sig P365 compare in accuracy to the Sig P320? Because I have the SC P320 and I don't have anything that compares to it in the striker fired world. I wish they would have made the barrel a little longer on the P365. They could have done so easily.

I don't have a 320, but I will tell you that out of all the carry guns I have shot, the 365 is by far the most accurate gun out of the box that I have shot.

The length of the barrel for me is perfect, fits easily in a pocket.

I think I forgot what this thread is about. I've never owned a Sig but do own the Shield 9. It was amazingly cheap + rebate, it's reliable, it carries easily and it's plenty accurate for it's intended purpose. I have to do the FDLE qualification which is out to 15yrds. It's center mass at that distance without difficulty. My first little 9 was a PF9 and it's OK but I like the Shield much better.

I purchased the G43 and then bought the Shield for my wife. It turned out that she couldn't pull the slide on the Shield but had no difficulty with the G43 so we traded. I found I like the Shield better.

Mine is the Shield 1. I've looked at the 2s and actually like the 1s better. The trigger is just fine for the type of gun and how it's carried. I don't carry it all of the time as I carry what my wild hair tells me to that day but darn, I can't imagine the Sig being worth twice what I paid for the Shield, especially for a gun that get sweat soaked, left under car seats, etc.

With a mag in the gun and two spares in my pocket that's more ammo than I carried most those years on duty. I was going to say "all those years on duty" but remembered I carried a 659 and later a 669 as duty weapons for a bit.

Edited to add paragraph breaks so it's readable should you want to.
