Default Possible to add thumb safety to M&P 9 Perf Center C.O.R.E.?

I may pickup a M&P 9 Perf Center CORE.

I've read a few posts, but still not 100% sure... if I buy the necessary parts, can I add a thumb safety to this M&P?

The short answer is, yes.

The longer version requires some info from you. What year is the gun? What SKU# is the gun? If you could post a pic then I could definitively tell you what you'll need to do to add the thumb safety.

My recommendation is to forget about the thumb safety because it's largely superfluous. Still, it's your gun and you can do what you want. I (we) will help you as much as we can to get it into the configuration that makes you happiest.

Don’t the factory COREs use the sear housing with the internal lock? I know the lock’s not there but you can see the plug.

If so, the frames don’t have the notches for the safety.

SKU 10097, is 2 years old, so probably a 2015 or 2016.

Is it this one?

If it is, adding a thumb safety is a little more work. Here's why...

This is the rear of the gun pictured above:

Here is the rear of a newer design:

The red arrow is pointing to a little square. That square is the plug S&W installs when they omit the thumb safety. If you had this design, you could just pull out the square plugs on either side and put in the thumb safety and plunger.

However, if you have the design I first pictured, you don't have the little square plugs. You can still install a thumb safety, you'll just have to cut the frame to make the relief for the thumb safety. Do you want to do that?

Again, my recommendation is to use it as is. Hundreds of thousands of M&P owners have used their non thumb safety guns without incident. It's really not needed.
