There is a really long (60 pages, IIRC) string on RDS in the "Secondary Weapons" sub-forum on Lightfighter. All kinds of good info. That forum is not like this one - mostly rough military and LE folks with a very serious mindset. You can learn a lot.
I just did the Gunsite 150 class at FAS a couple weekends ago as part of the effort to transition to my G17 with Aimpoint. The presentation is very different from working with sights for the last 40 years, and made me SLOW. It is truly amazing to me how different it is to find the dot when in the grand scheme the difference in height is pretty darned small. It's not BAD - but very different.
I am doing some more research on the learning curve issues and have been told by one of my client's Firearms Instructors that for older shooters who grew up on sights, it's about 5000 rounds to get over the existing training to the extent that one is functional for serious use. I chatted up the same topic with a deputy who has made the transition - he said it took about a year of training and competition to get the point at which he felt it was a sound choice for duty. (New shooters will be very well served by starting with the RDS as soon as possible.) I'm a fan of the RDS, but there are difficulties you need to accept.
