Default Confusion on shield 45

Hi everyone. Iíve been away for a while with health issues but Imfine now and need some help. I want to buy a shield 45 but am confused about the 2.0 variation on the 45. Are all 45ís 2.0 or ones with just a safety or just ones with the laser. Are they all stamped 2.0 on the slide? Iíve searched quite a bit but found nothing concrete. Thanks in advance.

They aren't stamped, but the 45 seems to have the 2.0 trigger. I suspect that since the 45 was introduced in the same general time frame as 2.0, they just went ahead and incorporated the upgrades instead of doing it later.
By the way, I have an older Shield 9 to compare to, and there are differences in the trigger pull.

Thanks guys. I guess the confusion started when I saw a 45 pic on s&w web site that had a 2.0 stamped on the slide.

Full size and compact has 2.0 on the slide. My 45 shield doesn’t

That’s crazy. I just looked on their website again to make sure and they have pics with the 45 shield and 2.0 stamped on the left side of the frame. Go figure.

The 45 Shields are all of the 2.0 version. It's just that the first ones released do not have "2.0" stamped on them.

I bought one yesterday and it is not stamped. But the trigger and skew (sp) are correct for 2.0.

I like mine a lot. If I'm carrying .45 it's to one that's IWB even though I have a Sig 245, S&W 4566TSW, and a 4513TSW in the safe. It's lighter than the 'real' (not plastic) guns, eats what I feed it, and has an excellent trigger, plus I like that it has a safety.

(Full disclosuer: I do carry the 4513 some of the time, but mostly it's the Shield. And I just picked up a Ruger P97 and you can be SURE I won't try carrying that inside a belt. I've got a little red wagon I use to tow it...it's a sweet shooting pistol for sure, but BIG and heavy and never designed for concealed carry. )

The Shield 45 was 2.0 before the 2.0 was released.

Love it. Started with the Shield 9mm, bought the 45 ACP when they first came out, so it is not stamped 2.0. The 45 ACP has a better trigger and grip texture than my 9mm 1.0. Both are great pistols.

I have almost 1100 rounds through the 45 without any sort of malfunction.

I have over 2500 rounds through the 9mm with about 3 FTEs that occured within the first 250 rounds. None since.

Thanks everyone. I own the full size 9mm 2.0 with the threaded barrel and put an apex semi drop in barrel in it and couldn’t be happier. It turned a fairly accurate gun into a tack driver. No malfunctions at all. I guess I’ll sell my Glock 43 to my buddy and buy a M&p shield in 45.

Agree. I bought an early run w/ no stamp and a later run that is stamped 2.0.

I just bought a Shield 45 that is stamped 2.0. It has the night sights. It’s trigger feels about the same as my 3 yr old Shield 40.

Looking on the S&W website, it does not say that my model does not have the 2.0 trigger. Is there a noticeable difference in the old trigger and the 2.0 trigger?

If you go to the S&W website and browse Pistols using M&P Shield 2.0 for the Series and .45 Auto for the Caliber as the selection field choices, 10 Shield .45 models just came up for me.

Of those 10 model options, 9 of them had Shield 45 slides marked with the M2.0 designation (but all of them came up as M2.0 models).

Here's one of them:
M&P(R)45 SHIELD M2.0™ Tritium Night Sights No Thumb Safety | Smith & Wesson

The only one which doesn't have the M2.0 on the slide is this one, but the model description states it's a 2.0 Shield.
M&P(R)45 SHIELD M2.0™ Thumb Safety | Smith & Wesson

If you just select M&P Shield for the Series, and .45, a list of 12 of them comes up, and all but 2 of them contain the M2.0 description (2 are PC models and don't contain the M2.0 language in their designation).

If you find the SKU Number that interests you, you might call and confirm with the factory that it's a M2.0 model. Or look at the language description on the box label.

However, it kinda looks like the newer Shield 45's are coming with the M2.0 marking on the slide.

My understanding as that the very first 45 versions I believe it was the shield 45 did not have the 2.0 envgraved in the slide. This was because of marketing. They wanted to bring the 45 shield to market. But they didnt want to pre-emt the full blown 2.0 marketing campaign until they had the full size and kther models to offer all at once.

So apparently S&W decided to NOT emboss the 45 shield with the 2.0 description on the slide. And waited to do that to correspond to the whole roll out of the 2.0 line.

From what I understand, the only difference is the slide engraving. All else was/is identical.

IF that is true, there may be some collector value for these 2.0 guns that are NOT engraved as there will only be a limited number of these guns compared to the full 2.0 production marked slides. But frankly I doubt it would add much if any value at all.

None?

The answer is that the M&P Shield 45 came out before the rest of the M2.0 series. It was the first with the more rough texture. It was the first with the new trigger. They just hadn't called it the 2.0 yet.

We will probably see all the new ones with M2.0 on them from now on.
