Default M&P 380ex mag issue

I just picked up a new 380 ez. If I load one in the pipe and put 8 in the mag 1 mag loads easy the other I have to slam. but both load easy without 1 in the pipe

What’s the usage with this gun? Meaning, how many shots have been fired? Have you been able to load 8+1 successfully before? I have an EZ and have never tried to load it like this as mine is still being used to break in before carrying.

What I do with my 380EZ is I put the mag in and it puts one in the pipe. Then I eject the mag put the 8th round in the mag then apply a bit more pressure re-inserting the mag.

I've shot around 200 rounds through it. Yeah I load a 8 round mag chamber 1 round then drop the mag and load another round. One mag will load easily with one in the pipe and the other I have to slam in and even then it doesn't always like to catch. But if there's not a bullet in the pipe it seats in just fine. Just strange that without one in the chamber it's fine.
Shouldn't make a difference. Was thinking that maybe something is wrong with the mag. Other than this little hiccup this thing is great.

Take the mag apart and check that the spring is properly seated in the follower and base. All you have to do is remove the baseplate... Pretty straightforward to check.

Do you have the same issue with this mag if you have 7 rounds in th mag? If not, it would suggest a mag spring issue. M&P’s are famois for having extremely stiff mag springs to start. With many people having difficulty loading the last round into the mag.

Have you used one mag nearly exclusively and not at all or very lottle on the other mag that is more difficult to seat? As the mag spring relaxes some. And what you are pushing on is the mag spring when seating the mag with the chamber closed. With the slide locked back, there is no resistance on the mag spring when you insert the mag.

I agree with checking the mag spring in the troublesome mag. I would then recommend you fully load the mag and leave it sit fully loaded for a while. Like 2 weeks so that the spring is under constant compression and have a chance to “set” and relax a bit.

Next possibility is the mag release slot. It may be just slightly off by a small amount. Maybe within tolerance but just enough to not lock in wothout pushing a little extra distance in. If so you could try to file a LITTLE bit on the bottom part of the slot. This would be the last resort.

I had the same problem with my Shield. It was more difficult to insert a full mag with one in the pipe. Don't know why but it was. After a few hundred rounds it worked its way out of the problem.
