The magazine springs on my new 9mm 2.0 compact seem to be very stiff,more so than any other semi I own. It's very difficult to load unless I'm sitting and are at a table. Any others with this problem? Solutions appreciated.

My M&P 40c 1.0 has over 12,000 rounds through it. That means each of its four 10-round magazines has been loaded with 3,000+ rounds, or 300+ loads each. The springs have not loosened up significantly at all. Getting in the last round manually is still very difficult, and even with my Uplula, I've got to press down pretty hard to get the last one in. So don't count on your magazines loosening up. Get an Uplula.

Which Uplula? There are several models

My Maglula is the universal model and it works on all my larger sized mags. I make it a practice to load my new mags completely full and put them on the shelf for at least two days and up to a week or so. Just let them sit fully loaded. At the same time, I lock the slide back (open) on the pistol these mags fit and leave it on the shelf during the same time. Doing this allows the springs to take their initial set and that makes it easier to load the mags by hand. The last round will still be the most difficult one to load. This practice seems to reduce the time for the initial breakin period to complete when the pistol and mags are new. But the Maglula mag loader works so well and easily that I seldom ever load a round by hand these days. I have one in my range bag and one in my safe. Best money I've spent!

As far as I know, there is only one model actually called "Uplula" although there are a couple others that have Uplula as part of the model name. You can find the Uplula online everywhere and at virtually all local gun and sporting goods stores. The manufacturer (Maglula) recommends being sure you're not buying a counterfeit version.

Finally, a piece of advice they give that many don't bother with is to load the first round by hand and use the loader for all the following rounds. This is because the Uplula has a metal tab that pushes down to make room for each round. When that tab pushes on a cartridge, no problem. When that tab pushes on a plastic magazine follower, potential problem over time.

OK. Got it. Thanks to all for solution. Still, I don't much like the idea that I need a special tool to load a stinking pistol magazine.

I carry it in my bag. Sometimes I use it and sometimes not. I don't "need" the loader it just makes life easier. YMMV

Get over it. :-) I have one and use it, both my wife and daughter have one and we use them. I enjoy shooting, not wrestling with a magazine spring. It's so much easier.

Agree. Unless you have legit hand strength issues, all pistol mags can be loaded fairly easily with out tool assitance. Even 33 round glock mags are perfectly doable. I suspect if you are having issues with anything in the smith line up, you have technique issues.
