Default M&P 2.0 compact budget upgrades

I love the M&P and I am wanting to trick it out but on a budget. I can't spend $200 for a Apex barrel, $200 for nice trigger and then night sights. At this rate I could have more money spent on upgrades vs the gun and I would be sleeping on the couch.

Any suggestions for a aftermarket drop in barrel or semi custom for around $100, basic trigger kit and decent night sights for a budget?

I suggest shooting it as is for a while. Then decide if any changes are necessary. The only thing I might do to mine is add night sights, but I haven't researched them yet.

The Apex driver is definitely work the upgrade and a good set of sights that is really all that you would need to do to it, the barrel off great, very accurate.

What is wrong with the original barrel?

Do you not like the trigger? And you may want to shoot about 1,000 rounds through it before you make the decision that any trigger work is “needed”.

If you want to make any early investment, I would say night sites would be the placee to invest. So you get used to the site picture beginning with the possible final sites you choose.

I recently looked into night sites and MY choice (everyone will have their own lreference). I will be getting Ameriglo I-dot pros (sw-501) Last I checked they were on back order for the M&P line.

If you are going to carry it, shoot it and leave it alone. Barrels, triggers, stippling add nothing on a trade in and might cause an issue on a carry gun in a self defense shooting. For fun start with an Apex trigger.

Name two cases where apex duty carry or night sights have caused a problem for the shooter in a “rightful” use of deadly force!

We hear about the legal problems all the time but no evidence. Most of the “hair trigger” cases are with revolvers and cocking rhe bammer to single action or extremely light “target” triggers. Staying at 6lbs for self defense should be safe.

If hair triggers were truly a problem. No one would be allowed to carry a 1911 style pistol cocked and locked which is the condition the vast majority of those who carry a 1911 for self defense carries them.

The original barrel is great for me, I do not like the triggers in the M&P line and correct there are no instances that I have ever heard of where an after market trigger or anything affected the outcome of a self defense case

I wouldn’t do anything to it until I had shot it for a while. The 2.0 has a pretty nice trigger out of the box. I usually black out the rear dots on the sights, but that’s just me. Put your money into ammo or reloading equipment.

O.K., I'll show my ignorance. What is an Apex driver? Is this slang for one of the Apex parts?

Spend that money on good ammo and go shoot that thing! After you've shot it a thousand rounds, then see what, if anything your gun might (I say might, because I understand that sometimes we just want something!) need. I'm betting you'll be pretty happy with what you've got after you've shot it that much. Again, my advice given sincerely to you, is to go shoot that thing! Shoot it a lot before you spend a lot of money on it except for good ammo.

Yup shoot the thing first before making any changes. For my aging eyes I have Ameriglo Hackathorn sights on my fullsize 2.0 and actually like them better than the Trijicon HD XR's on my 2.0 compacts.

The stock trigger is actually pretty good. Just don't shoot an Apex equipped one because you'll probably end up wanting one.

The trigger on the 2.0 is just fine, if you want a Target Pistol get a tuned 1911 from one of the specialists. The only thing you might want on a SWaMPy 2.0 is a front night sight, and many are available from Optics Planet and other sources for $50 or less. More if you want matching front and rear.

I put in an Apex sear that gives a shorter reset and much more positive break. Being hardened steel you can really feel the difference. It did drop the trigger pull quite a bit so I added a heavy trigger return spring. Now it's 5ish lbs. and much more responsive.

I also say shoot it for a while first.

I have more handguns than most. Only one has benefitted from a trigger job. Another ten have triggers that benefitted just as much from putting 4-500 rounds through them.

When you do start thinking about mods, think about the ones YOU think you need,
not what the INTERNET says you need.

EDIT: Mods
I also noticed how the ads on the left push out text off the right side so we have to make the font VERY TINY.Makes me remember the bad old days of DOS where you had to add
line wraps every few words. Not Good !!!

Only thing that the 2.0 needs, IMHO, is night sights and tons of trigger time.

That's funny. At times one can tell when auto correct did something. That had me scratching my head. Thanks.

Old grey head decades competitor says most vital upgrade for M&P is improve trigger finger. When you shoot good idpa scores with stock gun, then come back and ask again. This year had stubborn student spend price of 4 guns on mods, still has CHS disease (can't hit stuff).

MHO, and I do have the 2.0 Compact 3.6, 9mm, is to just enjoy it. It really is a wonderful gun, just the way it is.

Since you are on a tight budget, take advantage of that, and buy more ammo!

I believe, shooting it will convince you to leave it as the factory built it, and enjoy the free ammo!

Sights that you really like, extra mags, extended mag release from Hyve, and lots of ammo... only other thing I would like to do is have the slide cut for a red dot but I don't know if I'll actually make that investment yet.

I budgeted for a 19x. I got my 4in compact during the rebate and put an apex, 2 17round mags, ameriglo idots and an aiwb holster and mag pouch for roughly 30 bucks more . Bunch of 9mm HP's and fmj's perfection for me.
