Default Need Shield 9mm advice, 2,0 or PC

I shot the Shield 1.0 for the first time yesterday as a rental.

I wish I had done this a long time ago before I purchased my P365, Glock 43 and my Walther PPS M2. I could have saved myself some serious money. This pistol with the 10+1 Maguts extension removes the advantage of the P365 to this pistol to only two rounds.

Question is, I'm torn between which set of sights should I get on this weapon, the Hi Rez with the PC (is the trigger as good as the 2.0 which I have dried fired at a LGS) and do the light bars still fall out, or what about a factory installed laser or the tritiums?

At Cabelas the Hi Rez Pc model and the laser are roughly the same price, while the Tritium is about $40 more. I'm not a fan of the 2.0 grips texture, sand paper doesn't do anything for me, and will put the rubber Talon grips on either of the models I purchase.

Here is my target at 7 yards with the rental, this is the best I have shot (for a first time shoot) with any subcompact I own.

I would get the basic shield 2.0. Inwould then go buy after market sites such as ameriglo or Trijjicon or orher fiber and tritium night sites of your choice. My favorite so far is ameriglo Idot pro.

I habe gen 1 shield with factory tritium and juat got a 2.0 9c in 3.6” barrel. I thiught I would hate the rough 2.0 texture. But so far I love it. If anything, now the 1.0 shield Grip is way to slippery.

If you dont like the original std trigger you can always upgrade. The std 2.0 trigger I think is pretty much the same as the PC trigger. But I could be wrong.

The 3.6” 9c is “only” half inch longer barrel but grip length is the same as the shield with 8 (plus 2 magguts). But being a double stack get 15+1 capacity. If you can stand the extra width and weight. I would go with the 3.6” 9c over the shield. I’m starting to wonder what situations I cannot carry the 9c but I could carry the shield. I’m thinking Not too many.

The 9c also comes with x grip extensions so you can use the std full size 17 round mags as well.

I had a Taurus Mil G2 and it was about the same size as the M&P 3.6" 9c you are talking about, and it was a nice pistol, just a little too large for pocket carry, which I do 90% of the time out here in Arizona.

Thanks for the tip though.

Or, find a good used shield 1.0 and save some bucks. Mine has NEVER skipped a beat.

You must have big pockets. Other than cargo pants, I cannot fit a shield into pants pocket. Certainly not jeans. Although I am not a big guy ( 5-7 and 165). Even if I could stuff a shield into a pocket. It would print like crazy and not at all be quick to draw. IWB and alpendix IWB are doable.

Probably totally out of the mainsteam, but I prefer the Wilson Combat gold bead front/black out rear on my Shield.

Hard to say on the guns. We have several 1.0 Shields, including 2 PC models. And I have a 2.0 M&P, but it's the 5" model. The PC trigger is close to the 2.0 trigger, I'd say. Maybe not quite as good, but close. I'm not a big fan of the porting on the PC guns. Just don't like the extra mess. I clean my guns every time I shoot them. Never lost any of the FO cores on the PC's.

My suggestion is get the most low cost 2.0 model you can find and put Truglo TFX Pro sights on it. Those sights cover all the bases! And then upgrade the trigger via Apex, if you find it's not quite what you want.

I do agree with you on the grips, though. An aggressive grip texture makes getting your hands around and pulling a pocket gun difficult. I EDC pocket carry also, and tried the sandpaper like Talon grip stuff. I liked it for shooting, but it really slowed down my draw because of the above. Plus, it's tough on pants material. But I've heard of guys sanding down the 2.0 texture, so maybe that would do it. I don't carry my 2.0, it's a range gun, so no real experience there.

Good luck with the decision!

I am a "Big Guy" 5'10" 260 lbs with the right shorts I can carry the Walther PPS M2 with extended mag fairly easy in my front pocket with the right shorts and a sticky holster, hardly any printing at all.

I decided to pick up the model with the integrated laser, and perhaps install some tru-glo's on it down the line. I have tru-glo's on my Ruger LC9s and they are great!

If you have not purchased it yet, I strongly advise you to not get the integrated laser. Get the plain jane model and install the Crimson Trace "laser guard". FAR superior method for turning on the laser. No having to think about touching buttons to turn it on in a high stress situation. Grip the gun normally, and it's on. The new integrated one is a big step backwards from the laser guards, IMO.

I didn't like the 2.0 with laser as it's not removable. I got my shield 1.0 with tritium sights with I recommend and added a stream light tlr-6.

Oh and triggers are subjective between the two. If you plan to keep it stock get the 2.0. If you like a grippy gun, get the 2.0. If you like the 1.0 grip, get the 1.0. I personally love the 2.0 grip but I had a 1.0 before they were even announced. So I put an apex trigger in it along with what I said in my previous post. Pick what grip you like more as a stipple job can be avoided since you're buying for the first time. Otherwise, things can be changed. I don't know how people Keep the stock trigger after having shot my 1.0 stock for a good while and then bought the apex. Same with the 2.0. Didn't feel improved enough for me to not recommend an apex trigger in it to a family member who has it (with the built in red laser).

I have the PC model with the HI VIZ sights. I love mine. Carry it almost everyday. Great trigger. And I use an Aliengear iwb holster. Perfect for me

I had that style Crimson Trace on my old Ruger LCP, didn't really care for how it felt to grip, and didn't want the laser to go on every time I gripped it a little too strong.

Since I won't be using the laser in daylight to start with, that takes half the day out of the equation. But if I ever do need it in poor lighting or doing a sneaky Pete barricade shot from under the table or such, turning it on isn't that much of a deal, your trigger finger should be resting alongside it anyways.

Well the hunt is over. Went out today to my local Cabela's and attempted to purchase the Shield 2.0 9mm with the integrated CT red laser. That's when the Cabela's nightmare started, first the Cabelas credit card I just obtained two months ago came back rejected, seems that my card was a Visa and they are porting over to Master Card and they never sent me the bill for the whopping $9 balance I had, and then put a hold on the card because the bill was overdue, ***.

Then the salesman who didn't seem like the friendly type came back and told me the ATF had a hold on my approval so I couldn't take delivery for a few days. I made the mistake of telling this clown I was a retired PO, and I think he intentionally screwed up the background request to screw with me.

Well, I told them they could keep the gun I'm gone, never to return. Went to Guns-Plus the closest LGS to me and they order me the Green Laser 2.0 for about $20 more then Buds Gun Shop charges, which is about $70 less then Cabela's was going to charge for that model if it was in stock. He also had an 8+1 extended mag I stock to I purchased that on the spot.

Went home, called Cabela's and told them I'm cancelling their credit card and will never set foot in their store again.

Now just waiting till Friday to pick up the pistol, and it's the green laser, which I really wanted, but my impatience almost screwed me out of.

BTW, for those of you who think lasers are useless, look at this video

Yeah, unfortunately Cabela's has taken a step or two backwards since being bought out by Bass Pro last year. Our local Cabela's is the closest one to the BP HQ, and they have really messed with ours. Even changed all of the signs on the building to Bass Pro, save one small one. Bargain Cave is gone, employee turn over is rampant and the new ones don't seem to care. Damn shame, really.

Anyway, congrats on the new gun. Hope it works out well for you.

Picked the weapon up this afternoon, didn't have time to take it to the range. Very impressed with it so far, trigger is better then just about every pistol I have owned, although the LC9s pro is smoother and a crisper break, the dongle on the trigger gives me a blood blister after more then 25 rounds.

Will report back tomorrow.
