Default M&P Shield 40 vs Glock 27

I recently acquired a Glock 27.

I wondering how people think the Glock 27 stacks up to the Shield 40.

I'm considering either, or both, as a bigger/higher capacity carry gun option (compared to my J frames) for days with dress/weather makes a bigger gun possible.

What are the plus and minus points for these two options?

I own both with a conversion Barrel for both. I carry the shield more in the summer months and the 27 spring and fall. Winter months I go with the g22. However both of them are great guns. Easy shooting. But the shield thin profile helps to conceal better. The operated about the same with speed of follow up shots.

I don't have a shield 40 but I do have the 9. I also have a G27 and a G23. Personally, I'd lose the G27 or do what I did and give it to your wife for a purse gun (She's moved on to a G43 due to weight). As a concealed carry, especially IWB or OWB belt carry, I think the G27 stinks. I do carry the Shield 9 a lot and the G23. I consider the Shield sorta minimalist and the G23 an upgun. For me the G27 is just too much of a thick square chunk and it doesn't conceal any better than the G23 which shoots better, more easily and is more comfortable to carry and shoot. The minimally extra slide and grip length are all advantages when the gun is that thick. The shield, at least my 9, is a different category because it's so much thinner and lighter. It's length and height matches it's thickness much better, making for a better concealed, more comfortable and better shooting carry.

Edit to add: The G27 may fit you better than it does me. That's great if it does and your experience may be different as a result. Personally, without a grip extension I can't even get two fingers on the grip. With an extension I can get two fingers on but my pinky rests a bit uncomfortably underneath. I'll take the G23 without an extension.

That may be the case. I use finger extension 10 round mags for the 27 and can get all three fingers on the grip easily.

Honestly, Sounds like you need a conversion barrel and more practice then go back to the 27 if you are committed to 40sw. I shot left with the 27 till I repracticed the basic principles. Things started to change when I tightened up my grip and did some front sight focusing.

I carried a G27 for a couple of years. I was never able to group well with it. Went to a 1911 and never looked back.

I did buy a Shield recently. For whatever reason, I believe it's grip angle, I shoot the Sheild better than the Glock. My vote is always for the gun that works better for you. So, which do you shoot better?

I don't understand. Your wife wanted a heavier gun?

Good catch! It was supposed to say G43. Fixed it.

Can't speak on the .40 Shield (although I've read a few threads of Kabooms).

The 27 is pretty versatile. You can get 9mm or .357 sig conversion barrels. You can also use the 23 or 19 mags with a slide on grip extender and have the same size frame and capacity of the 23/19.

I recently went on a 7 State road trip, and a 27 is the handgun I took. I now travel 6-7 hours to a neighboring state, and a 26 rides on my hip. And that's only because the 9mm gives me more capacity.

They even have a triggerguard mounted light/laser combo you can get for it.

Here's mine with .357 sig barrel installed.

I am a huge fan of the Subcompact double stacked Glocks and swear by them, I shoot them well and they fit my small hands really well.

I traded into a Shield awhile ago and hated how big it was especially in my pocket

I outfitted mine with a TLR-6 laser/light combo and have never looked back
