Did S&W only make the 5" 9mm M&P in FDE?

I have a 1.0 in black. It’s ok, it has the “no tactile reset” trigger, but when shooting it I don’t mind it. I can’t shoot it any more accurately than my 2.0 3.6”.

I have a M&P Pro 5" in 9mm and absolutely love it. I would like to have a 5" 2.0 in 9mm in black, but S&W only produces it in FDE. I emailed my request for a black model to S&W and they replied that they would pass it on to the marketing department. I may have to settle for a tan one.

I have the FDE one. I like it. Very soft shooting. I'm an S&W M&P guy so I like the upgraded texture. I stippled my M&P full sized.

Trigger is better than previous version for wall, reset and tactile feedback. However that long pretravel is there that is making me want to upgrade to an Apex like my other M&PA.

I got it during the summer promotion where they gave 2 mags, Hornady self-defense ammo and the Caldwell loader. It was too good a value to pass up.

We have the big M&P's in 9mm and 45 ACP, we love 'em plenty. My 45 has never had a single misfire. Plus, it has the original stippling which feels far superior to me vs. the new texture on my 45 Shield.

I like mine. Shoots great, always runs.

I'd LOVE one in 10mm. Then I'd get a .40S&W barrel as well. Make training more affordable, then full loading 10mm when out stomping in the wilds as the wife and I go rock and mineral hunting. Crystal locations high in the mountains are bear and cougar country too.

I really like my S&W M&P M2.0 9mm 5inch. I carry it in a Safariland 7TS ALS. When using Safariland's Holster Finder, you have to select the M&P 9L without thumb safety. If you have a stiff gun belt, you may want the 565BL belt slide or the belt clip.

I replaced the OEM sights with Dawson Precision fiber optic front and Charger rear (black with forward slanting front face to facilitate one handed slide manipulation).

I too have the 5" FDE 2.0 and really like it. Feels great in the hand, really like the appearance, soft shooting (not that any 9mm is harsh). Nice velocity bump over my Ruger SR9Cs with a 3.4" barrel.

Just under 500 rds through it, all kinds of bullet weights as well as 3 different kinds of factory +P ammo, all flawless.

Haven't gone the Apex route, S&W insists it voids the warranty. Have done some very minor polishing of the trigger bar. That and the shooting have made an improvement in the trigger. Gun is certainly a keeper. Don

I have the 2.0 9mm in FDE and absolutely love it. Compared to my 1.0 Shield, the increased texture and improved trigger are hands down worth it. I shoot it very accurately and have never had a hiccup out of her.

For a price comparison, got mine with a 3rd 17rd mag (black 1.0), a cheapo nylon holster, and a thumb saver mag loader for $500 OTD. That was about 4-5 months ago from my LGS.

Here is a shot of 5" Pro Series "CORE" with and optical sight and regular iron-sight 5" Pro. Initially, finding a holster made for the 5" wasn't easy but I found a Blade-tech that works. I've only used them in some local match shooting. Very reliable and accurate but I still prefer a good 1911 Government Model trigger.

The solution is keep all the stock parts, and if it needs to go in for repairs, swap them back in.

I have several Ruger .22 autoloader pistols, and many people, like me have Volquartsen trigger parts in them. Now, Ruger won't deny warranty, but you will get it back with stock parts in it, and get billed for the new parts. You get the aftermarket stuff back in a bag. But Ruger doesn't have a warranty, they have a Guarantee, that they will take care of you, period.

I love my FDE 2.0 5". It is my home defense 9mm and it is an absolute nail driver as well.

I had to put a Dawson .160 high front sight on my M&P Pro 9mm to get it to shoot point of aim. It is spot on now. I hear this is a common issue. Have you M&P guys had this issue?

Like my 2.0 FDE model also. Trigger needed work to get it as good as my stock P320's, but the full Apex FF trigger kit got it there. Very accurate gun that is fun to shoot.

We have a M&P 4.25 CORE with a RMO5g on it . Stock pistol was garbage . Shoot patterns not groups and the trigger was gritty and to heavy . After a back trip home turned into waste of time as nothing was done as it was in "spec " I had to wait for Apex kits then trigger but pul a comp kit in it and a aluminum trigger along with a apex gunsmith barrel that I fit . This pistol is now a very nice shooter with groups from a rest of 2" or less slightly less possible with 124gr or 150gr coated swc loads and a trigger pull currently at 3lb 4oz . I like the 4.25 inch over the 5" as a for iwb conceal carry or as a fun or house defense handgun . For CC needs the 4.25" slide simple clears a holster faster and is a little lighter . Mt EDC is a p320c 40sw

I have the 9 pro and use it in local action matches. I do not have your low POI problem. I love the pistol!

I LOVE the 5" M&P9 2.0! Almost traded for one today, but the deal fell through. S&W dropped the ball by offering it only in FDE. I wish they made it in Black so I can carry it on duty. My plan was to have the 5" 2.0 cerakoted in Black and use that until a factory option was released by S&W. I prefer the look of the slide in the Gen 1 M&P9 Pro 5" with its straight muzzle; I don't care for the angular beveled muzzle on the 2.0 slide but it's not a deal breaker.

That is kind of crazy that the don't offer the 2.0 5" in black yet.

Took my 5" 2.0 to the range yesterday. Sure like shooting it with that Apex FF trigger. I have to say I like shooting my P320 X-Five a little better, but I'm not sure why. Both are very accurate guns. Shot them side by side yesterday, which I've done many times. Probably just that I shoot the X-Five more often, I guess.

For all the guys asking about it in black, why not just buy the FDE one, strip it down, and rit dye it black? People do that a lot with AK and AR furniture and plastic is well.. plastic.

I enjoyed mine until I had an ammo malfunction that blew out the lower frame and ruined the aftermarket threaded barrel.
Got a new lower frame and am now using the OEM non-threaded barrel.
Have had the full apex trigger in it for a while.

Always ran it with a suppressor.

I'm well pleased with mine. M&P 2.0, 5" 9mm FDE with a safety.

I would have preferred a black one, but near as I can tell they don't make one. And with the rebate they offered, I was able to get over the FDE (was $379 delivered).

Shoots great, very mild, The trigger seems to get better the more I shoot it, but I may still get an Apex. I have around 2000+ rounds or so thought it now.

As for a holster, I struggled too. But I found a Winthrop IWB holster. Been carrying it in that for about 2 months daily. I'm well pleased with that too.

I don't know jack about "rit dying", but I trying to pick up a used 5" 2.0 to have re-cerakoted in Graphite Black.

I like the FDE but I am in the market for a long slide 45acp and I don't see S&W made a 5in of any color in 45?? This has me looking at the Springfield Competition 5.25in that is offered in 9mm,40 and 45acp

Anybody have any experience with the Springfield 5.25 Competion or have I missed a 5" S&W in 45acp??

Rumor has it that the black 5" 2.0 will not be on the market for two years.
There is now a brown 5" 2.0 without thumb safety or "tactile chamber indicator" for a good deal lower price, though.

I am considering a Pro 1.0 before the supply dries up.

Just picked one up yesterday in a trade. Absolutely love the way it feels in my hand. Previous owner had trijicon night sights installed. Hoping to get time this weekend to get out and run a few hundred rounds through it.

"Rit"....? If you try to dye it, it will look like you.....well........tried to dye it......

Color changes need to be done correctly. Cerakote or Gunkote are good choices.

I have one of the 5" 2.0s. With the APEX trigger and TruGlo sights it is extremely accurate and easy to shoot.

I have two M&P CORE 5 inch model pistols: one in 40SW, and one in 9mm. I like them very much except for the trigger, and I fixed that with an Apex trigger kit. I also recently discovered that I can mount the 9mm slide on the 40 SW frame thus saving the cost of purchasing another trigger. (I know, I'm cheap.)

I like mine,no issues.

They made the Pro and 9L in black finish, and CORE too, if my memory doesn’t fail me.

I had an early 9L. It did nothing but make me look like I had never learned how to shoot. I stayed with it for some time but eventually traded it away because I could never get it to shoot a decent 5-round group with any ammo I tried in it.

My current 5-inch gun is a 2.0 FDE, with TLCI and thumb safety (but no mag safety). I’d prefer to have had the mag safety, too, but this gun actually shoots pretty darned good, and the new frame texture is a 300% improvement over the early series guns.

I have no idea if most of the new 5-inch guns shoot as well as mine, but if they do, S&W is learning something. As to the trigger, it’s better than the triggers I’ve seen on the earlier models, but it’s a long way from satisfactory, IMO. It’s manageable. That’s about all the credit I can give it.

Just out of curiosity we're you shooting reloads?

My Pro had a horribly defective barrel. I sent it back and a month later I got it back with a fitted barrel. IT SHOOTS !

I have 3 M&P's in 5". 9Pro, 40Pro and 9mm CORE. All Gen 1 ("Upgrading " to Gen 2 doesn't interest me.) These are among my favorite range guns. Soft shooting, accurate and ergonomic. I use Safariland 568 paddle holsters.

My Pro 9 5" is a great shooting gun. Shoots soft and mine has been spot on accurate. I did put in an Apex FSS & Flat faced trigger. Its my favorite pistol. Like others have said, I don't have any interest in going to the 2.0 version, at least not yet.

One is stock, other than a bit of polishing to smooth the trigger pull.

Well, I was hoping S&W would come out with the 5" M&P with the thumb safety in black this year at Shot Show, but...looks like it did not happen. I'm going to order the FDE version.
I have dyed Glock frames (19x tan to black) with very good luck or I may just get the whole pistol cerakoted. Not sure how cerakote lasts on plastic frames, time will tell.
I know one thing I really like M&Ps. I have three of the gen 1 full size M&Ps, three gen 1 Shields, a 45acp Shield, a 2.0 full size and a 3.6" Compact all in 9mm, never an issue with any of them.
So FDE full size model will be on order tomorrow, more to follow.
