question on new compact mp 22
Just got a m&p compact 22 and put roughly 300 rounds through it. I noticed a little silver pin on the rear of the slide coming out maybe 1/8 of an inch or so ... I am guessing I can just tap it back in ? Any idea what it is called and why it would be loose already ? Thanks for any help !

That is called the roll pin. I sent mine back to S & W after I was doing the same by tapping it back in. It will only get worse and you will have to tap it back every ten rounds. Then you will start having FTF's and mine got so loose the firing pin hit the barrel just above the feed ramp putting a ding in it. Just call S & W and tell them the roll pin is walking out and they will email you a shipping label.

Mine did that exact same thing. I called S&W and they sent me a new roll pin, but before it arrived, I used a dab of blue locktite on the pin and slide then tapped it back in. Several bricks later it's still in place so I have the new pin as a spare if I ever need it.

I just got my S&W M&P Compact a few days ago. I've shot a few hundred rounds through mine. Now my roll pin is backed out a little, like yours. I tried tapping it back in with a nylon tipped hammer and it won't budge. I don't want to destroy the pin (mushroom the tip). Any other suggestions, besides sending it back to S&W?

I recommend a roll-pin punch, and make sure you support the slide on something solid, i.e. don't just hammer on the slide held in your hand. That should pop that baby right back in.

Although you can use a roll pin punch, I would send it back, as it is on their nickel.
If they don't see and pay for their failures they won't correct the problems.

That pin holds in the firing pin block and breech face. You can tap it back in but it will likely walk out again.

I tapped it in with a buddy's roll pin punch. Now I'm trying to figure a good way to keep it in. I ordered some roll pin punches. I'm thinking of tapping it through the other side some and mushrooming the tip of the left side of the pin as it seems the tendency is for the pin to back out to the right side. Maybe adding a little blue Locktite before tapping it back flush.

I'll put this in my data bank for when and if it happens to me. Just over 500 rounds down range and no issues yet.

I would just replace the pin. As others have said, S&W may just send you one for free. If you can get the measurements (or someone post them here), you can likely find ton's of them at a local hardware, big box store or online.
