Default New gun, never shot, shows wear.

This is my first semi-auto pistol. I haven't shot it yet. Discovered this wear when disassembling for cleaning.
I'm guessing they get test fired at the factory. Is this wear normal for a brand new gun, never shot other than test firing at factory?
The gun is a M&P 2.0 9mm 5 inch barrel

Not only do they get shot at the factory, the slide, trigger, etc., all get manipulated when the pistol is assembled. The wear is minimal and indicative of a gun that was never shot after leaving the factory.

As long as you received the gun with all the original packaging and paperwork from a reputable dealer, that gun is new, but fired. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the replies guys.
One other question, what's a good gun grease to use? I have a Hoppe's gun cleaning kit with barrel cleaner and oil, but want some kind of spray solvent. What are the benefits of grease over oil and vise vera?

Read the manual, use what it says to use, and use it like it says to use it. Hint: It won't say to use grease.

Most basically, if the gun functions as it should, it's got the only thing that is important -- a Warranty.

I wouldn't worry about it.

If you really feel you've been ripped off, somehow, take it back to the seller and talk with them -- perhaps asking to see another one to see if it shows similar wear.

(More than one gun shop has been known to shoot some of their "new" guns and then sell them. That seems wrong, but it doesn't affect the value of the gun and it does NOT affect the warranty.)

That is absolutely NOTHING to be concerned about. You have a NEW pistol. Just to make you feel better I took pics of my NEW M&P9 M2.0 3.6". I bought this pistol brand spanking new a couple of weeks ago but haven't fired it yet. I have disassembled it, cleaned/lubed it, and have operated the slide and dry-fired it quite a few times so far, but no rounds down range yet. It looks pretty much just like yours. Hope this eases your concerns.

p.s. you don't need grease. just a good lube.

If your gun fit tight when assembled, it will show that wear just from racking and shooting a single round.

Whizz poor pics, but, this one has about 1500 rounds fired for comparison.

Who knows how many times it was racked in the store before you got it...???

Totally Normal ....the parts have to be fitted together , they rub and the finish gets rubbed off the high spots. No big deal .

Stop obsessing , moving metal parts rubbing against each other do this.
Deep breath...everything is fine.

When you shoot it , it will get dirty and perhaps show some more bright wearing in areas but don't be concerned, clean it, lube it and have fun shooting !

I'm not obsessing, Gary. This is my first semi automatic pistol, so asked people with experience if it is normal, and see that it is. I'm at total peace.

Thanks for the pictures, Eric300. That looks identical to mine.

Thanks for all your posts, guys.

DO NOT spray solvent, oil or grease into M&P action, especially the slide parts. It makes for a gummed up mess. 7 small drops of oil is enough for the gun; read directions

Congrats on a fine choice of a pistol. Your third image of the barrel is the only one that concerns me just a bit. To my eyes in this picture the angled ramp top shows wear which I don't see in 'new' pistols. The rest of what I see is normal because the mentioned slide being worked, it wouldn't take much to burnish of the black finish on the frame slides.

Sooner or later yours will show the wear on the barrel top anyhow so not an issue unless you suspect something sneaky from the dealer you purchased it from?
