Shield 9 2.0 or performance center?
So I just left my LGS and got to handle a brand new M&P 9 shield 2.0 and a used M&P 9 performance center with a trigger upgrade, and I fell in love with both. Atleast how they feel, weight, size, grip, all that. The performance center felt lighter in hand. I’ve got a multi part question here.......
-I currently have a used Springfield XDs mod.2 3.3 45acp with the factory laser installed, my LGS said he would trade with me straight up for the new 9mm shield 2.0 or I could pay a little boot and he would order me the 9mm shield performance center model with hi-vis sights and ported barrel / slide, so is it worth it to pay a little boot and get the performance center model or just trade with him straight up for the regular 2.0 shield? He didn’t have the performance center in stock, he had a used one in stock with a trigger upgrade (appearance wise it appeared to be an apex trigger but not for sure) that cost $100 something and he has a price of $480 on it. So trade straight up for new 2.0 9mm, or give a little boot for the new performance center or for the used model trigger upgrade performance center? Both had thumb safeties on them.
-if the above answer is yes and I make the trade and swap to a 9mm what should I carry in it? +p or regular pressure ammo? My LGS recommend the regular pressure hornady critical duty ammo, not critical defense but critical duty. In 45 I always carried regular pressure federal hst law enforcement tactical.
Btw if I trade this gun will be my everyday carry gun.

Here's a curve: keep your XD and buy a Shield 1.0 for $250+xfer. Then buy a $45 Apex sear. You will have around $40 savings and - in my opinion - an equivalent pistol to the Shield 2.0. I put Hogue grips on mine so the texture of the weapon does not affect me other than it's harder getting the Hogues on a 2.0.
High vis sights would be nice, but I don't like all the blow back a ported barrel generates. During the assault rifle ban I bought an AR with a barrel 'compensator' that only increased noise back toward shooter. I suspect ported short barreled pistols will do the same but have no experience with a ported Smith.

Well I don’t feel the need to own both really. And I mean I wouldn’t swap back and forth in carrying if I did own both, I’d carry one and the other would prolly go to the safe other than occasional range visits. I’m out no money at all if I take the brand new 2.0, if I want the used performance center or want him to order me a new performance center I’ll be out some money, prolly at most $80. I’m not sure if performance center is worth spending more on or just stick with the regular 2.0 and plain 3 dot generic sights.

I own a PC Shield 1.0; love the gun. Yes it gets dirtier and a long range trip may need one to wipe off the front sight (i have Fiber Optics); but I wanted the overall package the PC gave me over a std Shield at the time. I have had no concerns with it in dimly lit indoor lanes (the flash is a concern for some here) and i'll add that there are some ammo brands that label their boxes not for ported use. Do what you'd like with that info lol.
I am not one who will mod a gun, so would never personally trade for anything that someone else modified (apologies, only my .02). Not really sure why someone would change out triggers on a PC but again not an Apex fan so cant say its a good or bad change.
I understand the 2.0 Shield is a bit of an improvement over the 1.0; though trigger feel slightly different from a 2.0 to a PC. Perhaps even dry firing (if able) both at the same time may help give you an idea if any differences in trigger feel exist for you.
As cheap as the 1.0's may be now, grabbing one and adding the upgrades you like, whether FO or Hiviz sights, trigger, etc may still make sense financially. I am not a fan of the 2.0 grips so would run a sleeve over them, guess that may be a consideration as well.

I think, I’m not 100% sure, but I think the used PC is a 1.0 model and the new one is of course 2.0, as far as the trigger I’m only guessing it’s apex just by how it looked, it’s a big thick looking thing and has a trigger safety on it similar in appearance to a Glock. He’s asking $489 I believe or $480 for the used pc with the upgraded trigger. Claims the trigger was a $150 upgrade and that’s why he’s asking $489 for it. Brand new 2.0 I could get straight even no money exchanged with my used trade in. I didn’t price a new pc 2.0 yet through him

If you are not happy with the Shield safety then get the M2.0 no thumb safety.
If you are okay with the Shield's thumb safety then pony up for the PC 2.0.
IMHO of course.
Apex Tactical may have made the upgraded trigger:
Smith & Wesson Shield
Take your pick for carry ammo:
Service Caliber Handgun Duty and Self-Defense Ammo

Grabagun had brand new stock 1.0 shield for $279. Plis transfer fee and you still have nearly $200 in cash in pocket. Enough to biy hi viz sites or trigger upgrades if you want.
Just another option.

Has anyone here held a pc or 2.0 9mm 3.1 barrel and a pc 45 shield or regular 45 shield 3.3 barrel? Do they have the same size and feel grips? Loved how the 9mm felt today, but I already have a ton of 45 ammo and no 9mm ammo at all.

I've got the 9mm & the 45. The 45 is a little wider but not a lot, to me the 9mm always felt a bit thin where the 45 fits just right. Both are great shooters & the 45's extra width is very minimal. The 45 is a little taller and a little longer but all in all about the same size. My 45 works in all my 9mm holsters. Both are very outstanding.

Knowing my opinion is skewed, i dont see any reason to pay near $500 for a used modified Shield; PC or not. Heck Cabelas is selling PC models for $400 (in both 9 and 45) which I assume are 1.0’s. So online sites I assume could be even less.
Just saying if its a 1.0 PC being considered, there may be better options than used.
Again only my .02

IMO, I'd stay away from the ported barrel PC Shield. I have shot one that was forfeited to the PD I work for. I also have a standard, non-PC 1.0 9mm Shield. For me, the ported PC Shield was so loud that my ears were ringing after shooting when wearing just muffs. In order to practice regularly, I'd have to use plugs and muffs, and I hate plugs. I have never had this experience with another pistol, although I'll readily admit that I have never shot a ported pistol before. I know that hearing damage is one of the last things you should be worrying about if you ever have a defensive shooting, but it just wasn't pleasant to shoot for practice, either. On the plus side, with the issued PD ammo (124gr +P Gold Dots at the time), it did help with muzzle flip, not that the 9mm Shield has a bunch anyway. In fact, instead of the muzzle flipping up, the muzzle actually dipped down a little bit as a result of the ports. Strange since I wasn't used to it but it did help. While they were very visible, I also didn't find that the fiber optic sights were enough faster to pick up that I found them to be necessary. I didn't shoot the gun in dim lighting, so they may help there. IMHO, there wasn't enough of a difference to give up on my standard, non-PC Shield or to pick the PC over the standard gun, but that's just my opinion.

All of my target shooting is outside so the sound won’t be a big deal for me as far as ported goes. My 500 magnum and 44 magnum are both ported as well already and I just wear th4 regular walker power muffs when I shoot them no problem. My main thing is, is pc worth the extra whatever 40-$80 or whatever they are.

Only thing with not using my LGS and his options are having to screw around and try to sell my current gun. Never shipped a gun never attempted to sell online before.

I also own a 9mm PC Shield 1.0. Installed a Hoque grip to give it a better feel. For me it shoots great and is accurate with the factory trigger. Great pistol imo!

Installing an aftermarket trigger is no big thing...so simple even a caveman can do it...I did it. Maybe it's just me but doesn't a gun only need one hole at the business end of the barrel to work?

The Shield v2.0 has a much better grip on it and trigger. If you plan on putting a Houge grip on it, then the v1.0 can save you money. The muzzle rise on the Shield is very minimal, so I see no need for a PC version, too much flash and noise.

I put their flat face trigger and Action Enhancement Kit in my Shield with little trouble. If the trigger and striker block passes safety and function checks then I doubt there'd be an issue.
I wouldn't pay full price for a gun modified by someone else. I'd rather pay full price and do it myself.
