There were some other revisions involved in the M&P 2.0 pistols. Extractor boss, pins being different design and smaller, etc. I haven't got the 2.0 armorer manual yet, but that's just what I was told by someone at the factory and another armorer who has taken the armorer class including the 2.0's. (My 5 M&P classes were all for the original model, and then a Shield class.)
My last issued weapon was a 2016 production M&P 40. Fine pistol. The bulk of the ongoing revisions and refinements to the 1.0 were pretty much done, as I was told, by the time 2012 came along. (Rolling changes were happening in 2010, as I recall.)
The CHP chose the "1.0" model, BTW, even though the M&P 40 2.0 was available to them. Maybe our member who is a CHP gunsmith might see this thread and offer some insight. What I heard, from someone from S&W, familiar with the CHP contract, was that the agency basically felt that since the standard M&P 40 had been in production for 10 years (Jan '06 release date, to 2016), it ought to have any bugs worked out and all the necessary refinements incorporated. It had become a proven product, in other words. The 2.0's were still rather "new".
The 2016 production "1.0" M&P 40 I used for a while as an issued weapon was a fine pistol. Stock, aside from that SKU having night nights. Decent trigger and a tack driver right out of the box with our 180gr duty loads. Nothing I'd have changed if I'd been going to buy it. I just didn't have any interest in buying another full-size pistol, since I seldom carry the big ones I already own, and prefer smaller models.
Just my thoughts.
