My EDC is a model 3953 (N.P.D. 188) with no add-ons or alterations. It is a fine shooter and works well for concealed carry in my old Bucheimer-Clark 14c-79 IWB clip-on holster.

Mine varies from day to day, season to season. Most are stock. No blinkers or hood ornaments.

2 or 3 inch 38's
For years now my EDC is Model 637 which replaced my Model 60, which replaced Model 36 as EDC...usually carried in Smith & Wesson leather.
Sometimes a Model 36 with 3 inch HB and stock PC grips in plain jane leather.
Practice a lot with 38, carry + P in the 637, have several good wheel guns in 357 Mag (Model 27's in various lengths,Model 66, etc.) and even a bottom feeder in 9mm (Model 39-2) but always carry (read "depend on") a 38 just because it is what I know best, shoot best in short range situations which I feel is what EDC is all about.
Just my 2 cents, but you did ask.

Most common carry is a 431PD loaded with 32 H&R Magnum Critical Defense ammo.
Second choice is an LCR 357 loaded with 357 Mag Gold Dot 135gr short barrel from Speer.
I recently acquired a 340PD which I will add to the list next time I renew.

Did anybody ever determine what department the N.P.D. guns came from? I have one too and posed the question a while back, but I don't think there was any firm answer. Newark? Norfolk? Nashville?

For the past five years it has been an M&P 40c usually carried in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. (Yes, you can pocket-carry an M&P compact!) A few months ago, after prolonged break-in testing, I converted it to a .357 SIG with a Storm Lake barrel. With over 2,000 rounds through the Storm Lake barrel, it has proven to be every bit as reliable as the original .40, and even more accurate. I'm always on the lookout for a potential replacement carry gun, but so far, I haven't found any pocket carry gun that combines the balanced combination of of reliability, accuracy, capacity, and hitting power that my 40c .357 SIG provides.

I carry a 686-6 in a Next Holster Guardian IWB holster.
I also occasionally carry a Model 66-4 in a WBC Covert Carry tuckable IWB holster. A 686 will fit it as well, but it's a bit snug.
Both holsters are made just down the road here in NC.

Have a s&w 669 that's a great mid size pistol but just never carried it much and I have a m&p 4.25 40 with a thumb safety and a apex fss trigger kit with a 3lb 10oz pull weight and front stock sight dot painted with testers 1144 met gold paint front sight blacked out rear . Good shooter , great trigger makes for an easy to shoot pistol at 50 feet to 25 yards . But its only one of several carry options . To many good handguns out there to get strapped down to one brand .

When the 380EZ came out in February, 2018 I brought one and haven'the looked back. My previous concealed carry was a 640 Pro 357. I loved it but not the recoil. I can put more rounds in a target faster and it's a Fun gun to shoot. I have one addition on it. TruGlo Night Sights.

Shield 2.0 9mm. Two modifications to it. Lightly sanded the left grip panel to avoid abrading my skin and putting rounds through the barrel. AFAIC it needs nothing else to serve me well as an EDC.

This guy:
I trimmed the Pachmayr Compac grip for speed loaders.
I've done a few mods to compensate for my motor nerve condition. Including an 11 pound rebound spring, 8 pound main spring and I smoothed the guts a bit with an extra fine Arkansas stone.
On the other side:
I added a Laserlyte laser mostly for dry fire practice.
I carry it in this:
Hanging from this:

Bone stock Gen 1 Shield 9mm. No reason to change anything. Has been 100% since purchased. Carried in a DE Santis Speed Scabbard along with extra 8 round mag. 147 grain Hornady Custom w/XTP's - standard, not +P.

S&W Model 649. I changed nothing except I added a Tyler-T.
When I carried my 642 I would note that I added Eagle stocks.
My preferred S&W, that I will get back to eventually, and which I did carry last weekend, is a customized M64 that went from 4" to 2" among other things. I love snubby K frames.
I might start carrying this old Model 10 again, too.

I'm going with S&W Rover's 4-4-17 post (see below) and opt for Newark. I bought the gun from XAVMECH after he got it from S&W Rover.
'I think the letter from Roy Jinks has pinpointed well how these pistols got from Springfield to New Jersey. I found some posts about Ray's Sporting Goods -- they were a huge supplier for police in Jersey that closed around 2009 when the owner hit his 90's and decided to retire.
I'm guessing the N.P.D. XXX number was put on the pistols after they were bought, presumably by an armorer. The number of pistols with this marking is in the hundreds - based on the numbers we've seen in the recent web sales (I have N.P.D. 188). So my guess is still Newark, as one of the few departments big enough to have that many officers needing a smaller pistol (e.g., detectives, staff, etc.). As posted earlier, a call to the PAO for the Newark Police Division, and his conversation with the armorer, indicated they did have 3953's and they did mark them with N.P.D. (he could not confirm that my number was one of theirs).
With the 3953, Newark would have had a pistol similar to the NYPD 3914DAO (although without the restrike capability). I can imagine police departments in that region looking to emulate NYPD in their choice of firearms for their officers.'

I carry a 640 Pro Series. When I bought it the trigger just wasn't right. I took it to Denny Reichard and he fixed it (it had a long ratchet). While it was there I had him perform a deluxe action job on it. The only other thing I've done was a change the grips to some Pachs. It's perfect now.

My EDC is Shield 9 1.0 with a NDZ magazine baseplate on the 7 round magazine. I may change out the sights to something that my senior eyes can see a little bit better.

You have good taste. I agonized between the 637 and 638, and wound up getting the 638 - which I'm very happy with. But I keep seeing good deals on 637's.

Depends on where I'm going, or what I'm doing. 9mm 2.0 Shield, 9c for sketchier days, and 9mm Compact 2.0 3.6 as primary if going into chiraq! Big magazines as backups (at least).

75% of the time, it's an M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm with an Apex Barrel and Ameriglo Hackathorn sights. Everything else is stock.
When I need something smaller, Gen M&P Shield 9mm with an Apex Trigger, Talon Grips and an NDZ pinky extension on the 7rd mag. I carry with MagGuts +2 extensions for my spares.

I carry my MP9C with a apex trigger and sear in it!
It also has Crimson Trace grips on it!
