New purchase
Going to buy a new pistol this weekend. I have the shield 1.0 now for carry. Looking at original Shield 2.0 or the Shield ez 9.
Which one?

I'd be opting for the EZ9. I believe it will have better resale value in the future with all the aging boomers and ladies needing the features offered with this model.

Had an opportunity to handle an EZ9 at a LGS a week ago. I can honestly say, it's a very nice pistol and feels good in the hand. It doesn't give you any more rounds than the Shield 9mm, but it is about the perfect size for carry and range work. Should be a good seller. If you have a Shield already, this would be a good addition. :-)

new purchase
fit the gun to your hand. Just like purchasing a pair of shoes. The gun should fit your hand and the index finger of the dominant hand should slightly extend past the trigger guard along side of the frame, if possible, at a gun store with range, shoot the gun for proper fit and comfort.

Is the original 2.0 worth the upgrade from the 1.0?

I suggest that you consider a Shield 45. All Shield 45s are 2.0. I have a Shield 9 1.0 with nearly 6,000 rounds through it, and a Shield 45 with over 7,000 rounds through it, so I have a good basis for comparison. The Shield 45 is a vastly more accurate gun. It's even more accurate than my SIG P320 compact. At 15 yards, I can place 70-80% of my shots into a 4"x4" square with the 45 (two-handed, unsupported). With the 9, I average only about 45%. The recoil from the 45 is surprisingly mild considering its size. If you don't mind shooting .45 acp, and you don't mind giving up a round, it's a much better gun. If your local range has one for rent, try it. I think you'll like it.

To answer your question NO! They added a more aggressive grip, front slide serrations and a slightly improved trigger. The resale of the 1.0 is in the toilet because everyone wanted a 2.0. KEEP your 1.0 !
I had a 1.0 and loved it but due to aging hands with arthritis I sold it at a considerable loss.
I purchased the 9mm EZ and shot 40 rounds (mixture of +P & reg.Velocity) through it. I would never go back to the Shield even if I Could. The EZ has better balance, feels better in the hand, and just like the ads say it’s easier to rack the slide, load the magazine etc... JMO

Thanks. That is what I wanted to hear, I have talon grips on the Shield and could add the more aggressive grips if I wanted to. Luckily and fingers crossed no issues with my hands so racking the slide is not an issue. So now do I want to EZ with a little longer barrel? That requires a new holster, lots of range time to prove reliability etc. I was carrying the shield appendix today and it disappears with an untucked shirt.

Interesting thought. Never really considered the 45 but have held one at a store.

The new American Rifleman has a review on the new EZ-9. Gave a positive review for what it's worth.

Went a different route. Decided that two hand guns were enough so I got a rifle instead.

I've agreed with you on everything until now. I'm sorry, but two handguns really aren't enough

Yes never enough guns, but two handguns and not one semi auto firearm to me is bigger issue to me. If Smith would come out with the 3.6 M&P in ten round that isn’t a 10lb mass compliant t trigger I wound get that to carry.

The Shield 45 is a great gun. But! I carry AIWB also. I had a Glock 30.
After carrying it for a SHORT while I sold it. The thing with a 45 is the weight. After you load up with 11 rounds, it gets pretty heavy for AIWB carry and there is the thick width of the frame to consider also. JMO
If you carry any other way, NO problem.
The 9mm Shield is (was) the best AIWB gun I have ever owned and carried for a pistol and I have had a few over the last 50 years, however I find the 9 EZ is starting to rank up there with it!
I have a holster for the 9EZ and have carried it without any issues.
Concerning the additional +- .5” bbl and +- 2oz weight, that has not been a problem.
Be SAFE and Shoot Often!

If the EZ fits your carry style, then it seems like a good choice. I had one for a awhile, but for my build and IWB carry, I prefer the slightly smaller regular Shield 9.0mm 2.0, which is my preference now.

I have also been carrying the Shield aiwb with the seven round mag. It disappears and is very comfortable. Tried the 4” compact aiwb but it is a little to big so now that is my night time gun with a weapon light.
