Default Grip texture on new m&p 40 too abrasive. Ideas?

Texture on new m&p 40 is too abrasive. Any ideas what I can do to help this situation? Guess I have tender hands, but kind of uncomfortable shooting. Any help with ideas? Trikerider

I recently bought some Hogue wood grips. I told them they were a little too abrasive. They recommended rubbing them on heavy duty denim. I don't know if that will work on polymer but it might be worth a try.

Several members here have taken off the sharpness with regular sandpaper, gradually.

So far i have passed on the 2.0’s over my 1.0’s due to texture so haven't had to deal with it just yet. But I too have read others have used light sandpapering to soften the edges. I personally would try one of the grip sleeves before i would do something that’s permanent. Just my .02

Very fine sand paper to dull the top of the surface. This was suggested by local PD armorer who really likes this series of pistols. Same as the folk above. I too prefer the earlier version shield and think the texture is perfect.

+1 on Talon rubberized grips. They don't cost very much, and they're easy to install. I've had them on my Shield 9 for about four years and at least 3,000 rounds, and they still look good and fit tight.

Personally I really like the aggressive texture except on that portion of the left grip that presses against my love handles. I took some 220 grit sandpaper and lightly buffed it to my satisfaction leaving the back strap, front strap and right grip untouched. Comfortable but still provides a secure hold.

Try the talons first . Once you smooth the grip with sand paper theres no returing it stock condition . Try 400grit paper if you most sand .

I would think that for those who prefer some texture but dont like the way it rubs while carrying iwb; I would assume holsters with some extra backing material (ie Alien gear, etc) would help cover most of what would be in contact.
No experience yet there, just thinking out loud that a holster choice could possibly counter the texture concerns

Bicycle inner tube cut to size and put over the grips. Works like a champ.

Yeah but if you want a color other than black it's a bit hard to do.

Here is mine with talon grips on it. They keep wanting to come off even though I've installed them before and never had a problem with them on other guns wanting to come off. I think it's due to the grip texture.

I've wondered if hogue makes a slip on grip in FDE for these?

I mean I'm sure you could probably buy a universal hand all and trim it to fit but I haven't wanted to mess with it. Although I've gotten hogue universal hand alls on several guns.

Might as well do it right if you want an "other than black" look.
Forget clothing dye like Rit, or Krylon paint.
Just Cerakote it, and it will look good for a few decades.
I did the slide this summer, this spring I'll get around to doing the frame.
Also did the full size in FDE and Desert Sand.

You need not alter the gun in any fashion. Simply put a chunk of old bicycle inner tube, inside out, on the grip. Feels sticky, excellent purchase, doesn't bother skin or clothing. Works great for no cost.

You can usually get them for free at a bicycle shop. They just throw them away when they have holes in them.

The more I shoot it the more comfortable it is getting on my palm. Think maybe I can live with it the way it is. Thanks for ideas though. Trikerider

But for $20.00, the addition of Talon rubber grip material will make it REALLY feel comfortable. I'm convinced you will like them and if not, you're not out a whole lot of money.

There is a company called Tuff1 that makes grip sleeves that work like bicycle inner tubes except they have texture patterns like Doublecross and Boa. Colors are black, tan/fde, od green and pink. Cost is $16. I put them on all my polymer handguns. Google them. I have one on my M&P compact 2.0 in fact.
