Default Drop-In 9mm in .40 M&P ???

Fella wants to sell me a Stormlake 9mm barrel and 3 17-round mags for $200.

Couple of questions:

Do I need anything more than the barrel and mags to 'convert' my 40 cal M&P 1.0 to 9? Do I need a new extractor, guiderod, recoil spring, etc?

Is this a fair price? Midway is asking $159 for barrel and mags are $35 or so each. It seems like a good deal. He says less than one box of ammo through the barrel.

I have a 2.0 5" M&P 9 with some after market stuff the previous owner put on it (Apex, extended mag release, etc.) but I figure with the 9 barrel in the 40, why do I need a second 9. (Oh, the .40 has an apex trigger kit and night sites. I like the gun.)

Comments?

I had an M&P40 1.0. I converted back and forth by simply swapping out the .40 cal barrel for a factory 9mm barrel. Without the factory 9mm magazines it would often not feed the last round and would lock back the slide instead. I had a failure to eject rate of a little less than 1%. I ran several thousand rounds through it like that with no other issues. I always considered it to be more of a .40 that could also use 9mm for practice.

I have both a factory 9mm barrel and a Storm Lake 40 to 9mm barrel. Never an issue with either. And I suggest using the 9mm magazines. My Storm Lake was a threaded barrel on sale (I think Midway). May still be available at lower price.

I've got an M&P .357 SIG, and bought the Storm Lake 9mm barrel and one factory magazine. It works fine. I don't shoot the gun that often, because it's not a favorite, but I've had zero malfunctions, it shoots to point of aim, and 9mm is much cheaper to shoot than .357 SIG. Sounds like you're being offered a reasonably good deal.

I have a conversion barrel. for my M&P 40, and it works great. In fact, it’s the factory 9mm barrel that I got from Midway, for $70.00, if memory serves. Dimensions of the two barrels are identical. Just drop it in, use a 9mm mag, and you’re good to go. I couldn’t tell you if that’s a good deal or not, but it seems a little high to me.

I have OEM factory barrels and magazines for both my 1.0 M&P40 FS and M&P40C and have not had any issues with either. I don't know if the OEM barrels are still available, but when I got mine they were around $80 and I found magazines for less than $30. Again, the question is if they're available and if so, at what cost. If the price seems right to you and you've looked at what's available to you through other sources then you will probably be happy with the ability to practice with less expensive ammo.

Take a look at gunbroker. You can usually find the Storm Lake barrels really cheap (about $100).

For the guys using the S&W factory 9mm barrels, do you have the 2.0 version gun? How's the barrel hood to slide fit?
