Default New M&P 40 2.0 wobbly slide question

Anyone have one of these with loose slide? Mine has more side to side play towards front of slide and frame. Màybe this normal, but has more play than any of my other semi-autos of different brands. Anyone have one? Any slide to frame wiggle? Triker

Mine doesn't have any noticeable side to side play. When I grab the slide and try hard to wiggle it, there is no perceptible movement front or back, although I can hear a slight clicking noise in the front (but not the back).

Obviously they can't have a super tight slide to frame fit or it would be a range only gun and not suitable for carry use. A little bit of play is desirable for reliability.
But yours might be more loose than is normal. Maybe a few others will chime in and tell us how much play is in their slides.

I recently picked up a full size M&P 45 and there’s substantial side to side play, but mine has more towards rear. I took it to the range Wednesday and it shoots great. Keep the rails greased and don’t be concerned.

If my pistols shoot in the X ring at ten yards (Bench rested) when new and properly cleaned/lubed,then i'm good to go (An occasional flyer ((usually my fault))) is acceptable! JMO
I had a Sig P220 and 1 or 2 other guns that did not and I got rid of them!

Be SAFE and Shoot Often!

Yep....Plenty of play here.....Must be built-in reliability.

Not a problem in most cases. Accuracy is how the barrel fits the slide not how the slide fits the frame.
If it shoots well then do not worry.

This is not an accurate statement (sorry).

When the trigger mechanism in the frame has to interact with the firing system in the slide, the sloppy fit of a slide may negatively impact trigger feel, slide accuracy and even function.

While I doubt that an average manufactured gun that is in spec (which can be rather broad) will fail common accuracy or reliability functions, a gun with tighter and more consistently mated components once polished to its best tolerance will be both reliable and accurate.

The information missing from the OP’s post is whether he believes the sloppy slide fit negatively affects his gun? Probably not.

I'm 74 years old with tri-focals so most of my shooting is 15 yd maximum. Shoots at that range as good as I can. I just can't see good enough at 25 yd. Sucks to get old, lol.
