Default New M2.0 Compact in .40 S&W

After waiting and waiting and trying to overthink things, I finally picked up an M2.0 compact in .40 S&W today. I ran about 150 rounds through it at the range today and I have to say I'm fairly amazed. It was very mild in the recoil department and I was very accurate with it. Overall, it's pretty awesome and I have to say it surpassed my expectations significantly. My LGS had it priced (new) at $349 so that's excellent also.

Virtually all of the feedback I see on these things in internet forums is positive but I can't understand why I don't see more forum traffic and Youtube videos on these things. In my looking around Youtube, I've only found a few people who have done shooting videos on M2.0 compact 40s compared to the thousands of shooting videos on things like Glock 23s (which have admittedly been around longer). I just don't really understand why the M&Ps don't get more buzz. Made in the US, excellent quality, excellent value, great size....can't really ask for more.

The compact size is perfect. It provides a great grip and has enough capacity to serve as a home defense gun but still compact enough to carry.

If anybody has been thinking about getting one of these but hesitated like I did, I encourage you to pull the trigger (pun intended). I'm impressed.

The 2.0 compact is a fantastic pistol. I've seen tons of reviews for the 9. Anything in .40 doesn't get much notice these days.

I have a 40, 2.0 Compact and purchased 357 Sig and 9mm conversion barrels for it. No one is making compact conversion barrels so I had to purchase full size barrels and have my local smith cut them down and also do an 11 degree crown. So now I have one pistol in 3 calibers. IMHO, the OP is right on target with his comments.....

Are these the 4 inch or 3.6 inch barrels? Just wondering if there is much difference in balance between the two.
Considering the 4 inch compact in 9mm.

I think the 3.6 fills a nice carry niche..

I know people say barrel length doesn't matter, but people also say other lengths don't matter

Check the chart:

I bought the 4-inch model. I have other short-barrel guns so I wanted something close to the G19/G23 size class: 4-inch barrel, 5-inch height.

I sold my .40 pro series 1.0 4.25" a few months ago. I found myself missing the .40 caliber round so much that I've since purchased a shield .40 1.0, and a new 2.0 40 fullsize. I have 6 M&Ps, all fullsize aside from the shield, and my daily carry is a Glock 19 Gen 5 as I am a lefty. I have been considering switching from 9mm to .40 as my carry caliber, but not fond of carrying the shield due to the unreversable mag release. So, It looks like I'm going to be on the market for an M&P 40 compact 4".

I still love the S&W 40 round.. Found myself slowly drifting away from 40 to 9mm... but regretted it.. as .40 is still plentiful and affordable.

So off to local gun show, took my Gen 1 9mm full size with apex poly trigger kit and i-dotnight sights..2 mag. Had some wear as this was a shooter..

Found a private seller, sitting on table was a 5" Performance Series C.0.R.E. chambered in 40. Came with 6 mags and appeared to have been barely fired.

Guy said make me offer.. .40 doesn't move. I showed him my 9mm which I only had $340.00 into all total..

We even traded..

I ran like Forrest Gump after the hand shake and brought this beauty home..

Only issue.. no C.O.R.E. plates.. supposed I can find some later down the line..

So good to have .40 again.

I'm also a fan of the 40cal. ctr1970, I think you walked away with the best deal between you and the seller. Sure wish there were more folks willing to part with their 40's just because they don't like the caliber. Let us know how it shoots.

Took it shooting a few weeks ago.. the high sights take some getting used to.. may swap them out for normal height sights. As I don't plan on mounting an optic.
But once i got used to POA, this is one soft shooting .40 and very accurate with the stainless barrel.

Won't be walking away from .40 again.. may find a 9mm upper and have 2 calibers..

There were a couple questions; This is the 4" compact and the I use specific 9mm and 40 caliber magazines so I can not comment on 9 in a 40 and 40 in a 9 for reliability...
What I can report is that when the 9mm is used with the 40 recoil spring setup, the slide moves very slow. I never had any malfunctions, but if one was going to carry the 40 with a 9 conversional barrel, I would definitely change the recoil spring assembly as well to the specific caliber.
All in all it's a nice setup for a 3 in one pistol....

Like you, I'm also thinking about acquiring one. I have my eyes on the Performance Center M&P .40 Shield M 2.0 with 4" ported barrel & slide. The optic ready slide with the fiber optic sights is very appealing.

I have the 4" .40 2.0. Took it out twice and couldn't hit to point of aim. Finally realized my front sight was drifted to the left. I guess it came from the Factory that way, as I bought it new. Once I centered the front sight, I was right on target.

I found a Factory 4" 2.0 9mm barrel on ebay for under $100. Dropped right in, and with 9mm mags, it's ran flawlessly.

And I really like the Apex sear in these. It creates a better trigger for me.

Shown with 1.0 .45.

I started with a M&P 40c circa 2005 and carried that pistol exclusively for almost eight years. I sold it in 2013 but recently acquired an M2.0 version in 9mm (the "Subcompact). Personally, I don't particularly have a desire to get another .40 M&P because it's not my prefered caliber. I do maintain a SIG P229 chambered in .40 S&W/357 SIG/9mm in the event .40 S&W is the only cal ammunition readily available.

However, I am interested in an M&P Subcompact chambered in .357 SIG, so I guess I'd have to buy the M&P M2.0 3.6" Subcompact pistol again but chambered in .40 S&W (and get a conversion barrel from someone like KKM who might cut a blank barrel to 3.6" like they do with Glocks at no extra charge).

I really love .357 SIG. Don't get me wrong, .40 S&W is a great choice, but I like like .355" (.380 ACP, 9mm, & .357 SIG) and .451" diameter (.45 ACP) bullets in general. I think .355" takes care of most carry needs while a .451" option provides superior accuracy. .40 S&W is a great compromise, and sometimes that's the way to go but that really depends on the person.

I have a few questions. First, how is the accuracy between the two barrels? I know the extra weight of the .40 S&W can aid in accuracy, but beyond that, I was wondering if the 9mm groups open up even more in comparison since you no longer have as tight a fitting barrel. Moreover, are you seeing erratic ejection patterns?

Also, are you using Talon Grips because the M2.0 texture is too aggressive? I only ask because mine were at first (they actually hurt quite a bit), but after a week of dry practicing the bejesus out of my M2.0, I got used it and now I don't even notice. When I use Talon Grips, I have to use the granulate otherwise the rubberized ones don't even grip as well for me as a Gen4 or Gen5 Glock (people have different skin texturing on their hands, and mine don't really get any benefit from rubberized grips). That said the M2.0 grip is phenomenal in my opinion once your hands adjust. To me it's like having to develop calluses on your fingers to play guitar. Your skin will rise to the occasion.

Honestly, I've only done close-up (7 yards off-hand) shooting. Didn't really notice any accuracy deviation. Nor did I notice my ejection pattern.

The 9mm barrel seems to fit as tight as the .40 barrel, there's just a small gap on each side of the barrel hood.

Yes, I didn't like the rough texture. Most my guns have the Talon rubberized grips & I love it.

Every since YouTube started censoring gun channels on YouTube over the last few years there are far fewer people doing videos, and if we think group think was bad years ago, it's even worse now because we just don't have the variety of opinions to go around in my opinion.

I can't understand how you guys can grasp that short grip. Y'all must have small hands. Even with an extension on the mag of my sons M&P 40 compact 2.0, my pinky is still hanging out there in space. SMH!
