Default Shield (1.0) Still in Production?

Just curious as I see a lot of Shield (1.0) deals happening.

Wondering if there is a lot of excess inventory or that 1.0 and 2.0 production is running in parallel.

Logically only the 2.0 versions will be the main offering.

There's a California Complaint Model that will likely stay in production for some time. Glock still makes Gen 3 for the same reason.

Shield Gen 1 is being sold at fantastic prices. I have two and they are terrific range and carry guns.

Now that is sound logic.

The reason for this is there is a thing called the "safe gun roster". Old guns were grandfathered into the roster. Any new gun or modification to the manufacturing of the old gun such as using a MIM part instead of a machined part makes it a "new gun".

For any new gun to make it on the roster, it must have a loaded chamber indicator, a mag safety and (here it comes) MICROSTAMPING of the gun's serial number from the firing pin onto the primer AND IT HAS TO BE READABLE.

Impossible you say? Yup. They know it and say "not my problem". Is this a thinly veiled way to eventually ban the sale of guns in California? You make the call.

Law enforcement is exempt (guess why they endorsed the law).

That's why 1.0 Shields, old Glocks and Rugers and old model 1911's are all we can buy as well as XD's and any other old model semiautomatic guns that a manufacturer wishes to keep in production. Smith and Wesson decided to abandon the M&P compacts and full size guns here and only keep selling Shields and SD_VE's which I hope bit them in the butts for allowing Glock, Springfield, Ruger and Hi Point to rule the market here.

My unscientific way of checking what is in production is to see what is offered on the S&W website.

One minor point, microstamping. LCIs and mag safeties applies to SEMI automatic handguns, not revolvers. Revolvers are still subject to drop safety and other certification requirements in order to be listed. Single action revolvers are exempt (subject to certain dimensional requirements).

I thought that as well except that is too easy.

The California explanation makes a lot of sense.
