S&W Shield mag fix
Many people do not like the fact that the sleeve/spacer on the S&W Shield 8 round mags can move around and slide out of place. I've seen replacement base plates aimed at resolving this "problem" priced from anywhere from $29-$49.
I ordered four of the one inch wide rubberized strips from Talo. I placed them over the sleeve and the base plate to bind the two together. As long as I don't have to disassemble the magazine, it works like a charm and only cost $10.

I never liked the sliding spacer either. If they don't stay down it might make it difficult to insert the mag.
I've put a few drops of black silicone (like RTV silicone for auto use) to hold the spacer down on my older mags, not permanent if you had to take yours mags apart once in a while for cleaning.
I ordered 5 more 8 round mags from Palmetto a few weeks ago, the deal that offered 5 factory mags and 250 rounds of Fiocchi 115 grain FMJ for $99. The new mags have the spacer tight against the base plate.
So maybe S&W heard the complaints and fixed the issue.
I took the new mags apart and put a coat of dry lube inside the bodies, no difficulty in doing so, as the new style mags have the spacer open at the back. The one piece spacer/baseplates slide right off.

Here's are pic I just took of the new style spacer/baseplate.
They look the same as the old ones, but sure seem like they are one piece.
I tried to separate them and had no luck.

+1 on the silicone glue (Black, Clear, makes no difference).
It keeps the sleeve from sliding, yet allows for (relatively) easy disassembly.
Silicone glue is a very good 'Multi-Tasker'.

Yep, Silicone.
I've also use some electrical tape around the front of the mags. Just trim the width so it doesn't stick up above the spacer. I do this on my FS mags with Xgrips to use in my compact.

I'm gonna try a drop of hot glue & stick that spacer in place.
Only have the one extended magazine & will have to wait on Pallmetto to run the five 1.0 magazines & ammo again for $99..

Update, well the spacer/baseplate on the new mags aren't one piece, I had one slide up a bit yesterday. But they do seem much tighter than the ones on older mags.
I tried to make the ones on my other mags slide up, no go. So they are an improvement over the earlier mags.

Yeah, the spacer tends to move around on my 8 round mag, but it's not a problem. I only use it at the range. I have five 7 round mags and only carry w/ 7 rounders for best concealment. The extra rounds craze hasn't hit me -- my Shield and both my other carry pistols all have 6 or 7 round mags.

If you would like a little longer grip, Pachmayr makes a grip extension for the 7 round magazines. They aren't spec's for the 8 rounder, but I put them on my three 8 round magazines. They were running about $15 for a two pack.

I do much better concealing with the 7 round mag as well. This is a "purpose specific" pistol for me and concealment is everything.

I usually have an 7 round in the gun. The 8 round ones for in my pocket I just get rid of the sleeve. They seem to work fine without the sleeve and for other than slow target shooting I don't notice their loss.

I went at it a different way. I slid the spacer up the mag and used a black paint pen to color the mag from the base plate to about 1" up. After letting it dry over-nite I slid the spacer back down to the base plate. The spacer doesn't move until I've used the mag several times at which time I paint it again. The paint also doesn't allow the silver part of the mag to be seen between the top of the spacer and the bottom of the gun, which throws my OCD into a fit. LOL
