Slide staying open
I’m a new member to this forum. I just bought an M&P shield 9mm. Every time I shoot a round the slide stays open. I have to manually rack another round before I can fire again. I had a Taurus G2S 9mm before. Any suggestions on what I can try?

Maybe you're shooting with a "high thumb" causing recoil to activate the slide stop. Adjust your grip and try again. Does it do this with both magazines supplied with the gun?

Let someone else shoot it and see whether it still misbehaves.

If adjusting your grip doesn't solve the issue call S&W customer service. They will fix it free of charge if it's a gun issue.

I can't see how a user can or could manage that with form, or hand/thumb position, and if anything, "limp wristing" would seem to have the opposite effect.
Time for a S&W rescue, or some input from a tech person.

You would be surprised! A thumb in the wrong position can engage the slide stop when recoiling, locking the slide back. Various hand positions and grip can cause all kinds of problems.
One way to check is to have someone video your hands while shooting.

The first time I shot a SIG, this happened due to the location of the slide lock. Now it don’t happen at all since I shifted by grip.

Happens all the time. Some handguns are more prone to this than others due to the length/position of the lever. I done this myself on my M&Ps, especially after shooting a 1911.
So adjusting grip, let someone else shoot, switch mags, etc., are all part of diagnosing the issue to rule out user error or a mag issue. No sense sending it back if S&W determines it's fine.

I was a firearms instructor for over 23 years with the U S Marshals Service. Definitely sounds like a shooter induced issue to me.
Change your grip. I agree it may be a high thumb problem or have an accomplished shooter fire it.
Try these things before saying it’s the guns fault and rushing it off to the factory.

Grip, thumb position or magazine or slide lock issue. If it's the mags it may be the follower's slide lock notch is riding high or the slide lock itself is out of spec.

The only time that has happened to me is when I used magazines that protruded too high into the receiver.

I gripped it at home and did see my thumb hitting the slide lock. I think the grip is the issue. I will find out Saturday when I will shoot again. Thanks for the advice.
