Question ? on M&P 40 pistols

I'm having an issue with my SD .40 VE I've shot it twice now and both times I've had a failure to fire on the first round. A friend said the striker spring is weak and to send it back, but I think it may be the way I chamber the first round. After the first round it fires fine.

The state range just reopened so now I can test my theory out, but I want to have a back up plan if I have to send it back. I wouldn't trust it again. so I'm looking for a back up plan. The M&P 40 performance center sounds interesting and I could use the round I already have. Any information would help me out.

Are you feeding the first round out of the magazine and letting the recoil spring chamber it?

Many people will have the slide locked back, insert a fresh magazine and then "slingshot" the slide. Which is pulling the slide back and simply letting go of it.

Don't fall into the trap of easing the slide forward to chamber a round.....the fact that the remaining rounds fire tells me there is no issue with firing pin or spring.

Yep, you're likely following the slide. Either use the slide release or briskly slingshot it.

Yeah, you would have to expand upon this. Sounds like it's operator induced.

I think that's the case too. When I go out I chamber a round by pulling the slide back and releasing it. When I go to bed at night I remove the magazine, remove the round and leave the chamber empty. Then repeat the next day.

I found one of the misfires and could see that it was a light strike. When I get the misfire I remove the magazine, pull the slide back, put the mag back in and it shoots without a problem.

It only has around forty rounds through it.

I guess I should have put this under the SD section so if a mod wants to move it, please do so. I still like to get some info on the M&P 40 as I may trade up.

I agree with wnat everyone else is saying here and would just like to add that you really shouldn't be unloading it every night then rechambering the same round like that, as it can cause the bullet to setback in the case which can cause all sorts of issues including dangerous pressure spikes as well as feeding issues.

Keep it loaded at all times unless you're cleaning it, there no valid reason to unload it every night and it's a practice that's entirely detrimental.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the tips. I'll be going to the state range Monday to test it out, and I'll let you know how it works out.
