Default Future of the BG380?

I see that several variations of the BG380 have been discontinued and that there are several sites selling these pistols at discount, are there any rumors that something new or updated is coming down the tracks? Clearing out old stock?

News to me. I like my M&P Bodyguard .380. If they come out with something better but not bigger or heavier I’m all in. If they pull an LCP2 and make it bigger then no thanks.

I also like my BG380. My dream would be BG9mm that is the same size. It might be too painful to shoot though.

tricolor - Wow - 11 years and one post!! Pace yourself, sir Back on-topic, I wanted to like my BG380 but it was just one step above a paperweight with it's awful trigger. Everything is expensive nowadays, but maybe S&W decided to invest some money in a re-design. This possible re-design has been mentioned here more than a few times - so, my guess it they'll let it die. Probably too many factory returns. The .380 EZ has mag and feeding problems up the kazoo - so may they're just going to give up on .380. It's pretty hard to beat a newer LCP and they're cheaper.

I'm starting a rumor that S&W is working on a BG9 to replace the 380.

tricolor: To the best of my knowledge (sometimes limited) there have only been 2 versions of this pistol. The original and the upgraded/updated M&P 380.
On Gun broker they Average over $300. Who is selling them & at what
giveaway prices? Inquiring minds want to know.

Be SAFE and Shoot Often!

i wish Federal would begin producing and selling their new .380 Hyda-Shok Deep. if it lives up to the hype, it will breathe new life into small .380's like the Body Guard, which has been flawless for me. if they haven't already re-designed the firing pin, that is a change i'd like to see. it needs a little more "throw" than the original.

I carry a Kel-Tec 380 with the pants clip at times.
It is tiny and hides well inside the swim trunks I wear.
I also carry a Kel-Tec 9mm or a Kel-Tec 40sw.
All have the pants clip on them.
Reno, NEVADA has a gun show this week-end and I will go to it.
It is always a good show!!!!
I don't really have a shopping list, but always enjoy walking the aisles
and looking at what is available!

I have an early original model Bodyguard.

I had numerous problems early on in my ownership.

I removed the "cat toy" from the front and it resolved many of my problems.

Leaving me only with the maddening light promer strike issue.

If you want a micro .380.... Buy the Ruger LCP and don't look back.

I have a couple of those Ruger's, and they never a jam or misfire.... They are GREAT pistols.

I have anLCP,P238 and a 2015 BG 380.The SIG shoot the best but I don't like to pocket a cocked and locked..My BG gets more pocket time than the LCP because I have no problem adapting to the trigger, she has SS barrel and internal parts, second strike capability, built in laser, better sights AND a safety that I'm use too..NONE of these three have ever had a FTF or a FTE..I too won't look back I''ll stay with the BG.380...Guess I'm the lucky one

I had an LCP, really liked the gun, I was far more accurate with it than I'd have expected. Very reliable through 300 or so rounds until a shot felt and sounded odd. Looked down and the extractor was gone.

Ruger sent me a new one. This one jammed up solidly the second trip to the range. Couldn't move the slide back at all. Ruger sent me a small 9mm, not enough of a benefit to CCW than my two SR9c. Sold it to the gunshop.

Couldn't bring myself to try a third time. Don

I'd like to see a 9mm sized between the Bodyguard380 and Shield 9. Too me the Shield is too big

Anything in 380 sells out here, I doubt it is the long term collectors buying them, but anything that goes bang and is not 22lr is still selling out quickly.

I would also like to see a nine mm in the 380 frame or something close. I have a 340 PD airlite, I doubt the recoil would be higher.

You'd probably need a crank like on the old cross bows to pull the slide back.

My LCP Gen 2 (better spring and slide cuts than original) has been flawless, shoot it better than my 642, especially with the Viridian laser I put on it.
My LCP2 was reliable and accurate as well, just prefer DAO hammer fired over striker fired for pocket carry.
Owner of my LGS is a Smith fan, won't stock BG's, too many returns.
I doubt we'll see many new models in the near future, R&D likely taking a back seat during this pandemic.

I recently bought a new BG380 for $300. I figured I could probably do better but it was in stock in front of me. No laser version.

Today I was looking at some local shops and the price has jumped to $360. One of these shops was selling for $256 for the last year and now it's up to $350.

I doubt they are going away with those price increases. Did the MSRP go way up? The price increase must be new shipments. Maybe they took away or could not provide large purchase discounts for the dealer.

I bought an M&P 380 a couple months ago. I haven’t check the serial number to be sure but the laser info on the inside of the frame has a 2018 date. I guess this was new old stock.

Don't hate on me for this but I wasn't much on the Bodyguard. Even though I love revolvers and my TDA guns I just couldn't get comfortable with it. Hard to control that small of a gun with such a long stiff pull. Same with the LCP. Soooo...I ended up with a Glock 42. I don't care for Glocks and gave my 19 away to my son-in-law. M&P's for me. But I wanted a small 380 and the 42 feels pretty good and I like the striker fired platform in such a small gun. I won't be looking for another Glock but they did a nice job on that one. Smith doesn't offer anything like it so the pickin's are slim. A little bigger than the Bodyguard but can carry in cargo shorts with a pocket holster. If Smith comes out with another 380 option I will be happy to check it out.

I have. a BG380 that's accurate but yea that trigger pull could be better.
For what I use it for, running tucked in a belly band it's perfect.

I had the G42 and it was a sweet shooter. One day while running it fell to the ground out from my belly band. I watched as it hit the ground in front of me, muzzle pointed right at my face. Safeties did their job but I couldn't help but feel a little unnerved.

I decided then, that the need to dispatch the occasional rattler or whatever during my daily 40-60minute run/walk the BG was more than sufficient. Serves well in a pocket, even without a holster too.

I'm glad you settled on a gun that suits you, a benefit of all the choices we have. I agree with you that the Bodyguard does it's intended job.

Dropping a firearm with the muzzle facing you would certainly get your attention! We as gun owners and carriers have to put our trust in the safety designs like the drop safeties just as we put our trust in the brakes on our cars. I wouldn't drive my truck if I thought the brakes would fail, I trust that they won't. Or at least I'm willing to take that small risk in order to reap the greater benefit. JMHO.

I wonder if they are focused on meeting market demand, and restricted production to the most popular options. ??
I've not seen any bargains on them locally, in fact everything is full priced.

There are those that don't like the BG 380, but a lot more people love 'em. I have two, and I'm not getting rid of either

I wouldn't pocket carry a G42 without a holster, so dropping the gun was merely the impetus to rethink the purpose. Mechanical devices fail so I mitigate risk according to the activity.

If I'm going to carry a gun the size of G42 holstered, I'll carry my P365 which offer more rounds in 9mm.
