Default Shield RMS on Shield owners?

I am seriously considering adding and RMS to my EDC Shield 2.0 9mm and would like to hear from folks who actually own this setup.

Questions for owners:

Did you get the package with base plate or did you get slide milled?

I understand the differences on paper but would like to hear about your experience and the always helpful, "I wish I had... or 'm glad I..."

Did you choose 4MOA or 8MOA?

Thanks

RMS? Do you mean RDS (red dot sight)? Or do you mean an RMR (ruggedized miniature reflex sight)? They are different.

Shield Sights is an English company that has made handgun reflex sights for about 20 years. They had the name long before S&W named their subcompact M&P model the Shield. They have produced their original J-Point RDS for years and sold it under other manufacturer’s names. They even made the original RDS for Trijicon. Good company. Their standard version is now the Shield RMS and IMO is THE RDS for subcompact handguns. It’s dimensions, especially width, are smaller than most other competitors, but it is still a robust and well featured sight.

I had this Shield RMS milled into this slide about three years ago. Everything about it has been great and I highly recommend both the optic and the milled installation. I prefer the smaller dot (4 MoA) for better precision when needed. It is always plenty visible. Because the dot size/brightness is auto adjusted (which works well) the dot size actually varies a little from about 3 MoA in dim light to just less than 4 MoA (IMO) in bright light.

I have M&P Shield Heinie Straight Eight night sights, and because the optic is correctly sized for the gun, the standard height iron sights co-witness through the bottom 20-25% of the RDS. Just right.

It has a coated plastic lens. Clean gently. Mine has no scratches or problems.

There are now two additional versions with the same footprint (I believe): the RMSw which is waterproof and the RMSc that is slightly narrower (fits even better). If I had to do it again, I might go with the compact version, if I could find one here in the US, but I would have no problem going with the original RMS.

Good luck on your quest. If you come to Utah you can shoot mine. :-)
