S & W makes a small single stack grip module (Shield), and three heights of the large size module (sub- and Compact, and full size). What they have not committed to making is a double-stack Shield size module and a new magazine.

They probably will depending on their market research - how many 365s and Hellcats are being sold and whether they are taking away from S & W sales.

Its not like Sig is a bad company. Most big name gun mfgs are making great products. If it appeals to you, and it has a good reputation, and fits your hand, then buy it.

It'd be a safe bet that companies like S&W and Ruger have their engineers working on their own versions of the 365. If Springfield Armory can do it, why not the big boys?

Not being too sharp , I haven’t ever thought about a double-stack module and mag for the Shield. The DS module could be shorter & prolly more concealable than the current Shield. But, that would require them to invest some R&D money which is prolly in short supply everywhere now.

Larger in every direction, and heavier, not really comparable.

I love my 365 as does my wife with hers. I shot the Hellcat and do t care for it. I would like to see a Smith like 365 but for me to switch it would have to be a serious upgrade difference and I feel a lot are like me.

I like the feel of the P365. But some online reviews showed problems with broken trigger springs. Maybe the problems have been fixed. I won't purchase one until I am certain of that.

sox Di you send your pistol in with a list of issues free on sigs dime to be corrected or just complain ??

Early p365 had some issues , thats life . But early and be a beta tester !! OR are you to young to remember how ****** many 9mm M&P 1.0 shoot or that s&w dropped the 357sig do to many problems .

Current runs of P365's as in 2020 models seem to be issue free and my wifes edc is a may 2020 p365XL but only has about 640 rounds fired and another 1000 dry fires by me mostly , drives my wife nuts .

We have 3 m&p's , a 9c a core 9mm and a 40sw and they have all been apex'd to some degree mild to anything offered to make them good to go BUT now they great . no thanks to s&w . HA

Not like S&W has not had there own QC issues over the years so control your whinniness !! ANY NEW PRODUCTION firearms can have some growing pains along with the occasional problem to be found still so suck it up and deal with it . Whining oblt reflects on you .

The 9mm Shield’s grip could stand to be a skosh thicker. If that ups the magazine to equal or more than the Hell365Cat, S&W wins.

If the Shield was slightly wider, S&W could fit a 15 rd mag in there. With the grip extension the Shield is about the same size as the Glock 48 which is 10 rounds. Shield Arms makes a magazine for the G48 that golds 15 (+1).
I actually hope Shield Arms makes a magazine for the current Shield that would get up to maybe 10 or so (+?) rounds.

If S&W does make something similar I hope they'll update their texture again. Maybe something laser cut that would be grippy but not scratchy. Something similar to Sigs texture would be awesome!

I think S&W is the most likely candidate for the above reasons. I hope too they embrace the optic ready designs. Would like to see a new design actually, though I do like the Shields and new 2.0 updates.

sox all you did was whine ! Poor old sox I feel sorry for you , really . But if you really got be a M&P fan boy go see if you can rent and handle a the m&p 2.0 sub compact and I 'm sure you response will be - Its just way to big or heavy .

Yea the 2.0 sub compact is .70 longer do to a 3.6" barrel and longer sight radius , shorter in height with a flat bottom mag at 4.25" but a way heavier , not really , only 4.4oz heavier and the measure width at the points that matter for carry (discounting the levers ) is 1.18 at the widest point with a small insert . slides only 1.088 . Not bad for a easy to carry m&p with factory 10 or 12 round mags with a 17round + plus as back up .

But in the mean time you can wish and hope and then beta test again if a double stack shield ever comes out ! HA

I had an early 9mm shield. Did not like it better than my 442pc. Sold it to a good friend who still has it. When the P365 came out, I bought one. Still have it and have not had any problems with it. I did recently add a thumb safety to it. I hardly ever carry the 442 since I got the 365.

Not much of a plastic gun fan, the ubiquitous Glock is the only brand I own, however, the 365 intrigues me.

One benefit I enjoy is the ability to run the same Glock 10-33 round mags in my G26.5 and 9mm AR.

I have been waiting for years for a 10rd magazine for the Shield. Glock has sold a lot of Glock 43x.

SW factory 8 round mag with a Magguts +2 kit, mine has been nothing but reliable.

If I didn’t live in a restricted state I would own a P365 to take advantage of the 12 and 15 rounds mags.

Here’s my Shield with the Magguts extension...

I thought I saw S&Ws answer to the 365 in one of the recent Rifleman mags. Will have to dig it up. Maybe they haven't released it yet.

P365 for me. Works flawlessly, carries well, 10+ rounds. Great platform. If S&W does come up with a real competitor, I'd say they are too late to the game. SIG, Springfield, Kel-Tek, and even Gluck are already quite ensconced, and the CC market is quite saturated. Besides, what major improvements can be made to the P365 to entice buyers?

Forty three years ago when I started in law enforcement I was issued a model 10 HB and a six round loop belt cartridge carrier for a reload.

Now everyone needs a gazillion rounds. Three rounds and more than likely your gunfight if you’re ever in one is over.

Magazines that don't cost $40+ would be nice.

But since I already have a P365 and enough magazines I cannot think of anything S&W could do to make me switch.

Nobody ever said they brought too much ammo to a firefight. Sold my Shield, bought 365. Gang or active shooter, you run out of ammo, you die.

Very true about the rounds fired. However, you must also consider than anyone shooting at you most likely has a high capacity firearm also. Even if I only need 3 rounds, I want to have more in my weapon than my opponent does.

Granted, this isn't Hollywood where you have a shootout around corners and under cars for 10 minutes and no one gets hit.

Competition is good. I'd also like to see Smith get into the "stack and a half" carry gun market.

Smith sold tons of Shields and did very well for itself when the single-stack nine craze hit.

Guns like the P365, Hellcat and Glock 43x have to be eating into Shield sales.

Same goes for Walther and their PPS.

I don't think single-stack nines are going away just have snubby revolvers haven't. But Sig struck a vein with their P365 and is the hot item. I expect others like Smith and Walther to try to get some of that market share back.

Sorry guys...I'm on a roll here. Competition in the carry gun niche has resulted in out-of-the-box carry guns getting better.

If you look at the P365, they are trying to compete on trigger quality, usable sights from the factory and shootability as well as size and capacity.

I had a Shield 1.0. Sold it for a p365. The p365 has more rounds capacity, easy to carry. Hated it. Didn't fit my hand like I wanted, didn't shoot it as good as a shield. Sold it. Bought a shield 2.0. Love it. I have 2 promag 10 round magazines for it for the range. Carry it 8 +1 all day. To each his own. I'll stick with the Shield.

I have shield 1.0, bought a p365, sold it a week later, now going to get a shield 2.0 and keep the 1.0 as a backup.

shield fits better in my hand, feels more like a gun. sig parts were crazy expensive, unavailable, and overall sig didnt seem to care.

i do wish the shield had an option or small redesign to fit 10+1. right now im using a magguts +1 spring to have 9+1. i also bought a magguts +2 extension but it makes the gun too big, i do some times carry that mag with the 10 rounds as a spare but the +2 makes it bigger than the 365 or comparable glocks. i was thinking of getting a glock 43x or 48 but already have tons of accessories for the shield.

i probably had 2,000 rounds through my 1.0. never missed a beat. will be testing the 2.0 with magguts extensively.

have 2 of the P365 MS.....have a Vedder Pocket Locker for pocket carry, but i'm not sure i will ever carry one in my pocket. on my hip in a Wright Leather Predator holster they are a dream to carry. not much larger than a Body Guard....mine have been 100% reliable. i tried the Shield, but we never did bond.

Smith has to make a competitor for the 365. The only reason people but Shields at all now is the price difference between a new Shield and a new 365, but when you factor in the night sights that come on the Sig, that price difference shrinks. Not to mention many put in a new trigger in the Shield. The trigger on mine is fine for what it is.

I have a Shield 1.0 and like it alot, but I never carry it. My carry gun is a Ruger LC9S. For carry, it's ALL about the size and weight, and the Ruger is smaller and lighter than the Shield. The specs between the Ruger and the Sig are virtually identical. I've debated buying the Sig and maybe one day, but three more rounds than the Ruger? Spending over $500 for another carry gun for three rounds that in all likelihood I'll never need? Plus, the mags are stupid expensive for the Sig.

But if I didn't have the Ruger or the Shield, the Sig would be mine. Yeah, some early teething issues, but same with the lots of S&W products when they first came out. Bugs seem to be worked out of the Sig, but selling the Shield and Ruger would be a huge loss and I have holsters for both.

Would be nice if S&W redesigned a mag that would hold say 9 rounds but be same size as the 7 round shield mag and work with the Shield. The 9 round Ruger LC9S mag looks stupid and takes away from the whole point of the gun: concealability. I don't even like the 8 round mag for the Shield.

A Sig P320 Compact with night sights is not too bad, a little larger but has 15 rounds.

If they made the shield with the amphibious safety like I have on my 1.0 M&P9 I'd be a happy camper for sure. That is my ONLY beef with the shield. Being a southpaw, the current safety just doesn't cut ot for me with my .45 shield but I like it anyway-great littke 45.
One day I will have undedicated funds in my pocket and come across a 365 at which time I will own one.
BTW why are 1.0 M&P 9's considered ******?

Doubt that at this point Smith would spend the time and $$ developing a micro compact to go head to head with the 365.
As to capacity, Sig now offers a 15 round factory magazine for the P365.
As much as I like my manual safety 365 would like to see an after market safety lever that was bigger than the stock one, have big hands so would like more to swipe on the draw.
And think Sig should provide the Hogue Handall with the 365 as standard issue, it would cost them little, and makes a significant difference in grip control,

i'm with you on an after market safety. at some point there will probably be one. H&K safeties are just about right for me.

Bought a shield 2.0. Love it. I have 2 promag 10 round magazines for it for the range. Carry it 8 +1 all day. To each his own.

I'll stick with the Shield.
Great story, told in economical detail!

Get with the program my man! (Although I will state that after I test fired it and loaded it to capacity with my fighting rounds, over 10 years ago, the 5 rounds in my 337 still remain un-fired with green stuff growing on the brass-although I DO periodically pick the lint out of the barrel )

You gotta upgrade to nickel plated brass. Really helps with the green stuff growth.

When I compare my M&P Shield to my P365X (P365 with XL grip) I find that while being slightly slimmer though the grip, the Shield is similar in all other dimensions. This is 7+1 compared to 12+1. The standard P365 is obviously smaller.

S&W could easily increase the grip area a bit, add a wider magazine, and leave all other areas of the pistol alone to get into the the ball game. It’d be similar to the Glock 43/43X frame width differences.

Yup, that’s what I envision. Can’t be that difficult.

I agree, it is just too thin in the grip. It hurt my hand to shoot until I added the Hogue slip on model specific that really make a big difference in the feel. That little bit of width was like night and day. You really have to shoe horn that grip on though.

Had a 365XL for the capacity and thought the gun was ideal for carry. I shot it reasonably well and had no complaints. Yet every time I try to replace my Shield I end up coming back. Ergonomically (for me) they are perfect which lends itself to tremendous accuracy. My overall shooting preference is a 1911 but don't use for EDC. I just purchased the PC 45acp 4" and waiting for my TruGlo sights to arrive. I will start working it in with my PPS M2 for EDC and put my PC 45acp 3.3" in the safe. I have purchased a few (more glamorous )EDC guns just to return to the Shield. The one plus is I now have a nice selection for carry

I share your thoughts 100%. I’ve had a couple of Shields and they are fine guns but IMHO inferior to the P365. Might just be me but the P365 is more accurate at least with me on the trigger and will feed anything. My last 9mm shield fed great with SD ammo but was fussy about cheap target ammo. I’ve put at least 1000 rounds through my P365 with no hiccups
