Default Shield PC 45acp with a 4" barrel (Could be the 1)

Just picked this gun up and after 200 rounds at the range I think this could be perfect for the individual who wants to own only 1 gun. Perfect for a day at the range and also for carry. Clarifying it doesn't have to be the 45 I would imagine the 9mm would be the same. This gun shot very well out to 15yrds and carries very nice. Recoil was a non issue and no malfunctions, I have some TruGlo sights coming and will be the only change made. I have both 9/45 in the shorter barrel and highly recommend them to anyone who asks but IMO the 4" takes it up a notch or two. Going to the range tomorrow and look forward to another 200-250 rounds with this gun. I did order my wife this gun in 9mm and should receive it in about 7-10 days

Well that is nice to hear, seeing as I just purchased this exact gun as my first handgun. As I shop for a CC holster I am quickly realizing that this particular variant must be a niche gun in the M&P lineup as I can't find anything made specifically for it. Anyone else have a lead on a IWB holster for the MP Shield .45 2.0 Performance Center 4" barrel? I'd be much obliged...

Try Crossbreed, MTR Leather, or VersaCarry. The MTR will take the longest but is well worth the wait, very nice all leather holsters. The Crossbreed Super Tuck is a leather/Kydex combo, you can call for the 4" Kydex, and ships fast. VersaCarry makes my preferred OWB although I do have some IWB. All three have great customer service.

Check out t.rex arms raptor.

I recently picked up the 4 inch shield in 9mm and am kind of surprised that there isn’t much chatter about it. It is fantastic. I can handle the 3.1 inch shield fine, but the 4 inch handles like a completely different gun. It is so nice to shoot.

Yes I feel the same regarding my 4" .45 compared to my 3.3". I went so far as to say the 4" Shield could be the 1 gun for an individual that wants protection and occasional range time. On my first day of shooting the 4" I was very surprised at the performance.

I just picked up my new 45 Shield M2.0 with a 3 3/8" barrel and I really like it.

It feels good and its fun to shoot.

I bought it for a carry gun but will probably alternate it with my 642-1.

My M&P 45 has a 4 1/2" barrel and when I carry it I carry it in a shoulder holster.

Thanks so much for the recommendations guys! As a newbie, I would have never guessed that the world of holsters was such a wide and diverse area to explore. I'm really liking the look of MTR Custom Leather's products. I'm sure I'll end up with a few different ones, as I'm sure most of you do too.

A couple of years ago I bought a Shield 45 as a gift for my son. I took it out to make sure it worked before I gave it to him and I liked it so much that over the next couple of weeks I put close to 500 rounds through it. It's really a lot of fun to shoot and really accurate for what it is. I ended up having to buy another one for my son. I installed TFO sights and an Apex sear in mine. When the time came I offered to let my son choose which one he wanted and as luck would have it he chose mine. Not just because of the upgrades but mostly because by then I had put probably over 800 rounds through it without a single hiccup. Since it was going to be his carry piece he chose the one with the proven track record.

I’m guessing if you had to pick between the regular 45 shield or the performance center version it would be the latter? Is the trigger better on the PC?

I have several Shields, 9`s AND 45`s. Standards & Performance Center.
The latest PC trigers are for better than the standard model triggers.

My latest Shield 45, is the PC 4 inch non-ported. Best Shield i`ve bought to date.
The trigger is outstanding! This gun is actually the most accurate 45 i own in 4in.
It SMOKES my glock G30S in accuracy.

Good to hear from you Papow, I haven't seen you around here lately.
I was thinking maybe the N.Y. authorities had deemed forums "non essential" and you couldn't log on ! Glad you are back.

Although I could shoot my PC .40 better than my FS .40, I just wasn't doing that well with either of the .40s anymore so sold them, and now have a .45 Shield, a FS .45, and a FS 5 inch FDE 9mm.

The 5 inch MP9 and the .45 Shield I can shoot really well with, I just got the FS .45 so I've only got to take it out once (yesterday), enough to know it needs Apex trigger parts (on the way!).

Cool, I’ve been debating on getting one and retiring my Gen 4 glock 30. Been trying to find a side by side comparison.

Buy it, i think you WILL BE amazed! This latest Shield45 PC i bought replaced my G30S. This one i just bought with the 4in barrel, non-ported, is definitely my favorite 45. Not to mention, i just love the fact that they went with the one piece guide rod & single recoil spring. It shoots sooooo smooth. Sights are decent, but i do have other sights, just havent gotten around to getting them on yet.

If you decide to buy one, check the date code on the box. They revised the mags. The front leading edge of the follower now has a groove in it. This groove in the follower aids in cycling. If you find your mags don`t have the updated mag follower`s, its just a simple phone call to S&W CS and they will hook you right up! I bought some extra mags on line, they wernt the updated followers, S&W took care of them for me no charge, shipped right out to me, and had them in my hands about 3 days later.

Hope you get one, like i said, i think you`ll fall in love with it! Just a heads up, run some hot 230 range ammo thru it hard. I ran a couple hundred thru mine, and damn if that gun didnt come right in! Slide was running like it was on ball bearings! The new RSA likely had alot to do with it though.

Make sure you come back an give a shout if you get one!

Awwww thanks man..., always great to hear from you too! I`ve missed ya brother! Yup, the lockdown really screwed up alotta things around here in NY. We GOT to get rid of Cuomo!

Well dang, misterrrrr... i didnt ever think i`d ever hear of you partin company with them forty`s.

Wow, to funny, i was just fondling a new S&W FS 45 over the weekend! I was kinda eyein that compact too. Probably just end up buying them both. I too, shoot the 45`s farrrrr better than the 40`s myself. And i sure do love me some M&P`s ya know. I still have my M&P 9L, (WAY to much into it to sell it) but now i think i have to have one in 45. I`m just not sure yet if i really need one in the PC 45 class. I think i still have the know how to make a standard work real good for me. We`ll see. Just snoopin around right now.

Yeah those standard parts do need a fixin! You an i both know how to take care of that rascal problem though...lol

APEX that puppy!!! heheheheeee

I ran into the same problem with my 4in Shield45 when i first got it. So in the mean time, what i did, was look for the standard 3.3 Shield 45 holster where the bottom of the holster was open so that the added extra length could pass thru it. If you buy a kydex, you can cut of the bottom off a little bit so that the slide could clear if you had to as well.

You want to pay attention to where the front sight sits at the opened end of the holster though. You dont want your front sight snagging when drawing.

I bought an ok leather blackhawk (@ sportsmans warehouse) that worked out just fine for now. I actually bought it for one of my other (3.3) Shield 45`s, and just tried it out with my 4in version. Wish i could post a picture of it for you in here, but i cant get my computor to pull the pics from my phone.

Anyway, thats another option to think about. As time goes on, i`m sure their will be more holster`s coming out.

Why buy a 4" barrel shield when one can get, in .45 the regular or compact 45M&P, or in 9mm the M&P compact 9???

Sweet thanks! I’ve been looking but can’t find one. I did find the regular shield 45 though.

I can explain for you, but i cant make you understand it.
Its simple, the Shield 45 is easier to conceal.

I can't honestly compare, all of my Shields have been the PC models and I have been very pleased with the triggers

The width is much better for carry IMO

I have a couple shield 9’s, original and new 2.0, I just got a new 2.0 compact (Glock 19 size). There is a bit of difference in size when you carry the above. Why buy a full size M&P 45 that only holds ten rounds when you can get a more compact package like the shield and be pretty close to fullsize capacity?

I have the regular Shield in 45 and also the 4" ported OR Performance version.
I love them equally the same , but the 4" allows a bit more juice from my handloads !
Both are amazingly accurate.

I also found some increased accuracy even with factory loads with my 4" 45acp. It has not malfunctioned, shoots accurately, and carries really well. Very pleased with this gun.

For personal defense I'd rather put a few big holes in someone than a few little ones.

11 rounds is plenty for me.
