Default Bodyguard mag release.

I’m looking into upgrading my Bodyguard 380 mag release. I have the M&P laser version but it has the plastic mag release. I don’t have any issues with it like a lot of people do. My concern is that I might have an issue someday. And I don’t want that someday to be when my life depends on it. So I’d like to upgrade it to a metal one. Now if I contact the factory will they replace it with their newer steel version? Or do I get one from Galloway? I think I’d prefer steel over aluminum for longer lasting wear.

That’s great that they just sent it to you. Better off changing it yourself because I hear now takes several months for factory services. Did you charge you for the part? Did you also install a new mag release spring?

I sent mine and and they did it. But then the magazine started falling out under recoil. That had never happened before the switch. A very light touch on the mag release and it would drop the mag and there’s not a whole lot of room on that tiny grip to avoid brushing up against that button.

Galloway Precision sells a metal one that they say prevents that issue. It does require you to press the mag release button as you insert the magazine but 100 rounds fired after it was Installed and the magazine stayed put.

I’m really surprised that this happened. My reason for wanting to change to a metal release from my plastic release is to prevent the mag from falling out. Mine hasn’t started falling out but I want to make sure it doesn’t happen at the wrong time. I would think it will eventually start to fail as the plastic wears down. I’ve had the bodyguard for almost 5 years but it doesn’t get used much.
Makes me wonder if I’m better off going with the Galloway instead of factory even tho the Galloway version is aluminum instead of steel.

Glad to hear that. A lot of people having frustrating issues with the Bodyguards. I've owned 3 over the years . They all were "quirky". Each one had it's own small issue or two.
