M&P Compact 2.0 trigger bar
Hello,
I will be replacing sights next week when my sight pusher rangemaster arrives. I watched a video on cleaning up the striker safety travel hole and while I had the slide off to look at that job to do during sight removal I noticed what the trigger bar looks like where it engages the safety - photos attached . Is there any purpose to the way it is formed or is this just a mfr defect I can clean up? Am I worried about the scratches on the left side or is the rear surface (45 degree angle to horizontal) the only bit to clean up?
This is my first post here and I hope my photo attachments work!
I traded a Glock 19 for this pistol, new in box. And I am really happy with the grip and how it shoots! My first Smith and Wesson.

If you move, bend or alter the bar it will change the way your trigger works. If you have no issues shooting you should leave it alone.

Without taking something apart to verify, I do believe the surface above the defect engages the striker block/safety plunger while the trigger is returning forward/the slide returns to battery. The mark has no effect on the trigger action. If the firearm is operating properly I'd just leave it alone.
If you're really distressed, replace the entire trigger assembly.

A popular modification/improvement on the M&P 1.0s was to Arkansas Stone the loop on the trigger bar (which is now that solid piece you're looking at, similar to Glock) to try to knock down the edge and smooth out the material, resulting in a less gritty trigger pull. However, I would caution you as to what the guy above me said, because such alterations could have an adverse effect on the way the pistol works, i.e. removing material so the timing between the trigger bar and striker block is affected. If you have done some similar modification in the past, however, it is a fairly simple modification that I found to make shooting my pistol a lot more pleasurable.

Ok. I ordered the Apex ultimate striker block, and will see how that works on its own before considering any other smoothing.

Agree with the below. Welcome to the world of the 2.0. Doesn't take much to smooth it out if you still feel any grit once you install the USB. I'll even touch up the Apex USB a tad with a dremel and polishing pad. Just don't touch the bearing surface that engages the sear actuator. That surface is critical and the 2.0s have NO flexibility in that area. Much prefer the trigger loop.

I know some folks don't want to hear this, but when we were issued brand new M&P40s (MPB series), the triggers ah, left something to be desired. However, after a week of transition training, they were much improved. Dryfire will do the same thing.
BTW, "dremel" is a word/tool that has made a great many gunsmiths well to do.

I just looked at all my M&Ps and none of them have the mark you pictured. Mine are all 1.0 models.
It's possible that the mark in question happened during assembly at the factory. I would clean it up and go shoot some more. If it returns, then you have an issue.
The Ultimate Striker Block may help because it has a more rounded edge.

I did polish this today and also cleaned out the channel. No change in grit feeling.
Then I installed the Apex USB, Apex sear and duty/carry sear spring. I left the stock trigger return in. Very nice clean trigger and break now.
Also installed my Ameriglos.

MGW sight tool pro, i bought one..
Hands down the best purchase I made for my m&p's.
Did sights on my 5" Spec and 4" compact.
Zero issues removing ...installing was a breeze.

It is a great tool.
I wish they made the shoes for the old modes, which they’ve discontinued.
I am trying to sell my Glock model to recoup some of the cost I had to buy the Universal they converted to sometime in the last few years.
