I picked up an M&P Shield in 40 a while back and it has transitioned to my carry gun. I like it except for 1 thing, the trigger. Too long and heavy. Has anyone upgraded theirs and if so what did you go with and what was your outcome? Whatever I end up doing I will likely have a gunsmith do the work so I don’t jack it up. This is an early model, NOT the 2.0.

Had the gunsmith at the LGS smooth out the trigger on my Gen 1 Shield 9mm and Compact 9. Made a big difference in both. Are either as good as an Apex conversion? Can't say. All I know is both are night & day from when they were out of the box stock.

If you, or your gunsmith have some minor skills, you could install an Apex sear and striker block, that would help a lot.
I can't stand the factory hinged trigger on my full size M&Ps so have changed to Apex triggers.

But for some reason the hinged trigger doesn't bother me on the Shields.
My .40 is the PC model, so I didn't need to do anything, trigger pull was great the way it came.
My .45 Shield also come from the factory with an awesome trigger pull.

IMO, the easiest way to "fix" the trigger is to have an Apex kit installed. End of Issue. I have done that 3 times without a failure.

Dropped the pistol off with my gunsmith and ordered the Apex kit. Thanks for the input.

Picked it up today and WOW, what a HUGE improvement over the stock trigger. Looking forward to getting this on the range tomorrow!

.I have a Shield 40 1.0 purchased several years ago.

When I first got it the trigger was horrible! I could not get any decent accuracy because of the ****** trigger. No failures, just horrible gritty trigger.

Put in an Apex Duty/Carry kit. The gun became a dream over night.

I carried it religiously.

I got a 9mm barrel and magazines for it and just last week a 357 Sig barrel. Been shooting that caliber the last couple of days. All three calibers have been flawless through thousands of rounds.

New guns move the Shield 40 out of primary rotation. Not because it was not good, but just because it brought to light the M&P line of guns. Now I also have two shield 45s and a M&P 45 Full Size.

Because of the addition of the 357 Sig barrel for the Shield 40 I have been shooting and carrying it again with 40 and 9mm and 257 Sig.

I went with the Apex on mine. I like the trigger much better than the stock.

I installed a M*CARBO spring kit in mine, but what I think really helped clean up the trigger pull was following their video on polishing up the parts, especially the tip of that striker stop gizmo.

Was watching the video I posted above again, and at about #1.11 the guy said "This is for a 2.0 only".

I too have the early model. (1.0)

Guess I should have paid more attention before ordering the spring kit, but the lighter springs and polishing really helped clean up my trigger pull anyway.

I did return to my stock striker spring for ignition insurance but the trigger does feel great now.

Go figure.

I put an Apex sear in my 1.0 Compact 45 & 2.0 Compact .40. Great improvement. Although in the 2.0 the trigger feels lighter, I prefer the feel in the 1.0.

Yea my friend put the whole Apex trigger set-up in his .45 Shield.

His is lighter than my 1.0 .40 Shield trigger job that I did to mine.

I actually like mine to be a bit heaver to be honest, but he likes his well enough and that's what counts.
