are the box codes easy to read to tell the date of production or do you need to know how to read them

My box had a date that was very easy to tell that it was the date, sometimes the dealer will have put their own sticker over the factory one and it might not have the date on it

It depends on the type of box and label, but many M & P pistols will have a six digit date code indicating the day it was packed and ready to ship. For example, today would be 072720, so look for a number that resembles a month/day/year sequence.
