Default 2.0 compact sights

I took my 2.0 9mm compact to the range it performed with no problems. The problem came from my shots were way to the left. I'm not a professional but I know I shoot better than that then I saw the rear sight. It's mounted way to the right while the front is dead center. I know the company says don't touch the rear sight but it is way off. I should have noticed it but I didn't I hope someone can give me some advice. I was a glock fan but now I love my m&ps.

It may only require an adjustment, or it may require a trip back to S&W. It would be good if you could post some photos. Maybe some of the experts here who have dealt with rear sights could make a diagnosis.

Welcome to the Forum!

You can move the rear sight. Just be careful how far you move it to the left so that you don’t lose the spring assembly from the striker block. You would have to start moving the sight out of the dovetail before that would happen.

If the gun is shooting to the LEFT, front sight is centered and the rear sight is far to the RIGHT, something else is going on. I would suspect the dreaded low left push from not being used to the Smith's trigger yet. Please don't start moving the sights around without the proper tools and knowledge. Put a bunch more rounds through the pistol first, fired slowly and deliberately to get used to the trigger and see if your targets improve. Also have someone else with more experience with the platform fire the pistol.

If your rear sight was off to the right your shots would also be off to the right. Assuming you are looking at the gun as you would if you were firing it. This might be a "Do you mean my right or your right" thing, a picture would be helpful.

I was gonna second this. Usually the rear sight is moved in the direction you want the rounds to go, i.e. if your shots are left you would drift your rear sight right to bring your POI right. This is assuming, though, that it's in fact the gun and not the shooter. If you're saying your rear sight is way off to the right, then you (theoretically) should be seeing a group patterning off to the right of your POA.

I would absolutely do what another guy said and have someone else shoot the pistol first that is confirmed to be a good shot, and see if the POI shifts to a more favorable position. I've never really seen sights drifted substantially except for people that are left-handed but right-eye dominant (I know, weird), so there's that.

*** EDIT ***

Now that I reread my comment, are you opposite eye dominant?

The FIRST thing I check on any handgun with adjustable sights is are they aligned/centered. I've only had 3 pistols which required the sights to be centered. I've never needed to adjust sights to get the POI to center. If your pistol is shooting LEFT with the rear sight adjusted to the RIGHT, then there might be an issue. Only way to find out is have someone else shoot it; or have the sights centered and try again. Let us know how this turns out :-)
