Default M&P Shield 9mm EZ Failure to Feed - Solved

Out of the box my M&P Shield 9mm EZ would have a failure to feed about a third of the time.
The cartridge would get stuck about half way out of the magazine.
I polished the feed ramp using a rag wrapped around a pencil.
I also used an emory board to sand the feed lips, since it seemed they were rough and stopping the cartridge from leaving the magazine. I then polished the feed lips using a rag also.
BTW, the polishing was done using Brasso. Got to love that stuff.

My wife bought me a M&P shield 9mm EZ in February of this year. I have fired approximately 200 rounds through it. I have not had any problems with it. So I have made it my concealed carry gun. I do need about 2 or 3 more spare magazines. I am very pleased with my M&P EZ

You don't say what ammo you're using. If the ammo is too wimpy it could be short stroking.

It wasn't the ammo. I was shooting Blazer Brass and Winchester white box thru it when the FTFs were happening. After polishing the feed ramp and the feed lips on the two magazines, I had zero failures to feed after shooting 100 rounds at the range the other day.
Before I did my fix, just trying to push a cartridge out of the magazine with a finger, I could feel that it was catching up on the rough feed lips.
Seems that S&W did a poor job polishing up the magazines, if they even tried.
Just glad it's a reliable firearm now.

Default M&P Shield 9mm EZ Failure to Feed - Solved

I had the same problem. Polished every thing multiple times. Finally sent it back to S&W and the repair ticket says changed bolt face. What ever they did solved the problem. It has ran fine since.

I wonder if they meant they changed the bolt face.

I had various feeding problems, etc. Once I figured out that problems traced back to the grip safety and the thumb safety, the gun runs fine. My hand was sliding down the grip safety just enough to stop the gun on the third round. The thumb safety was engaging when my thumb inadvertently flipped it during firing.

I followed a suggestion by a forum member and wrapped the grip safety down. I hold my strong hand thumb down with my left thumb; gun runs fine as long as I take care of the safeties.

I've learned the rear sight needs to be adjusted for each type of ammo. Don't just assume it's going to shoot POA.

My Shield shoots rings around the 9mm EZ.

Never had issues with thumb safeties. Guess it's because I've been using then so long.

I agree, the grip on the EZ 9mm has to be thought about in order to make it work. Wish it were more like my XD-S where the grip safety works a lot more easily and you don't even know it's there. TBH, the Springfield shoots more accurately than the EZ too.

I like your info on sight adjustment for ammo type.

That's pretty much a given with ammo changes in any gun.

I've had my EZ9 for a couple of weeks now. I'm new to guns, and this is my first semiautomatic. (I also have a S&W 617, and I love it. It's a beauty and fun to shoot.) I have had zero problems with failure to fire. I actually bought four more mags (I now have 6 in total and none have caused any problems.).
However, on a couple of occasions the back grip safety has caused problems. I wish it was a bit more "forgiving". I, too may wrap it down. I have a thumb safety, and , so, the grip safety seems to be unnecessary.
Interesting comments about different ammo and adjusting the sights. I'm a just a "Newbie" and never heard that before. The ammo situation being what it is, most gun stores are limiting folks to 2 boxes of 50 rounds each, so as I go to different gun stores, I'm getting and using different brands/types of ammo. I'll have to pay closer attention to how each brand is shooting.
Thanks!

My wife had trouble with her grip safety. I put a thin ponytail holder on it. I thought about taping it down but I'd have to take the tape off to take it down and would have the tape residue to deal with.

Picked up the EZ9 a few weeks back. I didn’t have a 9mm before so I didn’t have any ammo on hand. I had to wait until it shipped. Finally got it out to the range and I had so many failure to feeds. After a few rounds and failing to feed, I looked inside the chamber and it looked like sand was all inside. I don’t think it was gunpowder. I tried to add oil and run it more but same thing with 2 different types of ammo(armscorusa and sinterfire) The pistol was supposedly brand new. Before the range I took it apart and oiled per the owners manual. I didn’t notice anything before the range. I also didn’t really clean it after receiving it, I only oiled it.
Reached out to my buddy who knows way more than I do about pistols and he suggested a deep cleaning and lube and to run a few hundred rounds to break it in. Ammo and budget is kind of tight so I will have to wait a little while before I can update on this.

On her first try with the EZ 9, my wife and her friend had trouble with it. I told her to be sure she is engaging the grip safety. Next day, no issues. No change in the gun or ammo, just technique.
When she came home from her vacation I cleaned the pistol and took it the the range a couple of weeks later. No problems at all for me.
My lone criticism of the EZ 9 is that it feels nose heavy. Both of us think the EZ 380 is just all around better, and easier.
She was hoping the EZ 9 would be just like the 380 but in 9mm and it is not. Everything is less EZ than the 380.
So I get a new 9mm
