The comp in the link is 3/8” longer than the thread protector. That’s where the single port is, out beyond the end of the barrel and pointing directly up. It’s not the same as a ported barrel/slide combo where ports are angled up left/right and are between the muzzle and the breech.
Expelled gas is of concern only in close retention firing position. Simply tipping the gun outward easily overcomes this concern for this single port comp and may also help with slide travel not hitting the body. With or without a comp, I believe this is the preferred retention firing position for a pistol anyway.
As for a ported slide/barrel, well, I won’t have one on a defensive pistol, at least in part because of gases and bullet shavings being blown out toward my face in retention position, even canted.
A weighted muzzle may be marginally helpful in attenuating muzzle rise depending on how heavy you could actually get one, but it would be a PITA for me to have that extra weight at the muzzle 100% of the time. The single port comp adds negligible weight but has a discernible effect.
There is probably some math guy who could figure out how heavy a weighted thread protector would have to be to equal the effect of the compensator gas port, but I bet it would surprise you how big and heavy it would have to be. As you have stated, finding one or having it made custom, well, the juice may not be worth the squeeze.
