What is it called
when your MP 380 EZ is locked and loaded with 1 round in the chamber, and there are eight rounds in the mag, then you aim and pull the trigger and nothing happens.

Did you disengage the manual thumb safety (if it has one) and/or the grip safety?

A malfunction!
Pull all ammo and mag out, put in EMPTY MAG and try to dry fire!

Not enough information. Did the action close and function normally mechanically? Did the round chamber fully? Was there a full primer strike on that round or was it a dud?

I had one in the chamber, and 8 in the mag. The flag was up, indicating one round in chamber. The trigger would not move when I tried pulling it. This malfunction is called something.

Sounds like ContinentalOp might have had a good question. If not, you have a mechanical problem with your gun. Have you had the slide off of the gun?

Yes the slide has been off when I cleaned it. I asked a salesman about the incident and he called it something. He told me when I put my pistol in the holster the slide was pushed back by the holster. And when I drew the pistol aimed and pulled the trigger the slide was still back a hair and the trigger would not pull.

1. If your holster is pushing your slide out of battery you need a new holster.
2. If your holster pushed your slide out of battery and it didn't return to battery when you took it out there's a real problem with your gun.

Just a gentle hit with the heal of your hand should be enough to move the slide that far forward. Think of the forward assist on M16. Then the rest should fire OK.

That's one of the reasons why I was always taught to keep my thumb on the hammer and/or the back of the slide when holstering.

It's not unusual for a new gun not to go back into battery in a situation like yours. It is why you need to put at least several hundred rounds through it to break it in. I think you will find that the problem will go away once the gun sees more shooting. Not sure what kind of holster you have but that might need to be broken in also. So long as the gun is functioning normally other than this incident, I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axle about it. Use your thumb on the back of the slide to hold it forward when you holster the gun. Carry rigs are like baseball gloves. The more you use them, the better they work.
