Was planning to purchase a Shield 2.0 9mm within a month. But looked online and saw the prices have jumped $100 or more on this model.

Now, I’m looking around. The Shield has been a great value, but not so much anymore.

If I’m going to have to pay $430 for a Shield, I might as well spend a few extra for a P365 or Hellcat.

I completely agree on that, if you can get a P365 for not a lot more, I definitely would. I paid $300 for my Shield 1.0 and just saw that Primary Arms has them in stock and selling today for $429.00 that's insanity and no that's not for the 2.0!

The quality of the gun doesn’t change with the price, if you want a Shield buy it.

I paid $379. for a 1.0 9mm in 2018 and $499. for a 2.0 .40 a month ago.

Happy to own and carry them and don’t really care what they cost in the past or future.

RK Guns had them in stock for 399. and the regular Shield 9mm for 319.00 but it looks like they are out now. You can have them notify you when they have them. I have used them as there are local Rural King stores so no shipping or transfer fee.

If you have what you need for now, it is clearly not the time to buy.

A quick look at some sites show the Hellcat and P365 are about $100+ more. That assumes you can find any in stock.

Will be giving my current carry gun to my daughter once her carry permit arrives. So, I’ll need something for myself. Used to have a 1.0 Shield and I still have an IWB holster.

How do you like the 2.0 40? How does it shoot and handle compared to the 9mm?

It’s more punishing than 9 and I like the trigger better, overall I’m pleased and it’s my EDC now.

It came with 3 mags and Tritium night sights.

I got tired of waiting for a M&P40 subcompact to show up.

Definitely not the time to buy if you can avoid it. Prices are up across the board. Probably the worst time to need to purchase something in decades. However there are still things available if you look around and have some good timing. Earlier today Buds had a Gen 1 Shield 9mm for $379 and a Gen 3 G26 for $569.

In March of this year I paid $380 to a LGS for a 1.0...and with state tax...$418 OTD. OUCH!

He wanted $550 OTD for a 2.0.

A gun shop with better prices was 100 miles away, my daily driver sucks the gas up, I would have to pay bridge tolls twice and go there twice because of some stupid 10 day waiting period.

Ordering on-line meant shipping costs, plus dealer transfer costs, plus waiting for the gun to arrive there in the first place...geeze.

I tried to make up for the additional $135 2.0 cost by improving the trigger myself, (turned out great!) and stippling the frame myself. (turned out great) and then added Trijicon night sights for less than the cost of a 2.0 around here.

Now if you can even find a 1.0 around anywhere, the cost is about (or more) than what I paid back then.

...well I feel better anyway.



...forgot to mention it's a .40 cal. and I reload, so my powder puff loads are probably softer than factory 9mm.

Heads up, the same effect has raised the price of every other gun made. Same for ammo. And it's not likely to change any time soon. The post election effect could make it a lot worse.

If I HAD to buy a EDC handgun now i’d Be a Ruger EC9s. 9mm 7+1.
Cabelas has them for $269 if they do actually have them.
My LC9S ( same gun with adjustable sights l) is 100% reliable and easy to shoot well.

Just saw this post. However, this morning I looked around for what I could find as a budget 9mm carry. Found the EC9S in the $250 range.

A couple of years ago, I shot an LC9S rental and thought it was a good pistol. However, I bought a Glock 43 instead. The 43 is my edc, but I plan to give it to a family member who is about to receive their carry permit.

I guess I could purchase the EC9S and either keep it as my edc or give it away instead of the G43.

Truth and more truth. Where you can still find them, S&W plastics prices are sky high. As others have said, the Ruger EC9s is probably the best economy buy around in a plastic carry gun right now with the P365 being even better if you can find and afford one.

Turns out I sold some of my unwanted plastics accumulation much too early. I barely got chump change for my 9mm Shields and my LC9s Pro. Who knew that I could have waited for COVID and mayhem and done so much better.

I'm still sitting on my excess polymer that I got cheap. Some of that could be worth obscene money in the months to come, especially the ones that have mags that take more than 10 rounds.

While I agree now is not the time to buy, I’m happy to do so. A family member who previously wanted nothing to do with guns, now sees a need, has made several range trips, and will soon receive a carry permit. I’m glad to give away my carry pistol in this situation, even if it means paying a bit more to pick up a replacement.

There’s money in those “cheap”, no more, plastic guns. Wish I bought a gross when they were close to $200.
