Inexpensive sight pusher
Hey guys. My DCAEK arrived today and my truglo pro sights will be arriving monday. Plan to install them at the same time and was hoping you guys could recommend me a cheap sight pusher that works well on the M&P.
Prefer it be on amazon if possible. There are alot to choose from and just wanted any personal experience.
Thanks

Hmmm.. Cheap... is something that cannot be recommended...
I can recommend Wheeler... but it's not cheap...
I've heard some good opinions about NCSTAR F&R Sight Pusher Tool but never used it.
Both available on Amazon.
And do not limit the tool to front OR rear... buy one tool for BOTH !

When I changed the sights on my 2.0 the front was tight. It took a few solid blows with a punch. The rear was easier. I don't think you should think cheap sight tool.

Somehow I have made it through several decades of dealing with these issues using nothing more than a 3" piece of brass bar stock (3/4" X 1/4") and a small hammer. I have adjusted, removed, and installed dozens of dovetail sights on handguns and rifles without any problems at all.

I have the Wheeler and can definitely recommend it-I have used it everything from S&W M&P to Kimber's-and one very stubborn front sight on a Springfield XD-

I have a couple good sight pusher tools and always go back to my vise, using a piece of foam as a cushion around the gun, a brass punch tool and a small hammer. Leaves no marks.

Brass rod and small hammer. It is both cheap and effective.

Guys, MrGreen85 needs an advice with sight pusher to make the job easier... not a history of hammering our sights.
We all know it can be done with punch and hammer... but this is not the case.
Let's just help him to choose the best tool for him.

Some cheaper sight pushers might work well.
I've heard the NCStar is decent. Haven't heard anything about the Kuber.
I bought a pusher from Brownells a few years back. It was made by B&J Machine and was $130.
It did fine with Glock rear sights and Springfield XDs, but when I tried it on M&Ps the pusher shaft would start going off at an angle, wouldn't even budge them.
I sold it at a loss, and have installed 5 sets of night sights on my M&Ps with a brass drifter and hammer.
None of them are damaged from being "hammered on".
Just be advised that some cheaper pushers, even some better ones, might not be up to moving those tight M&P sights.

Same here. You get what you pay for and using anything other than a sight pusher will likely void any warranty for a tritium sight.

The Kuber is a knockoff of the Sight-Pusher, spend a few more bucks & get the real deal. I have one & it worked great on my M&P shield 45. Watch some of the videos on the Sight-Pusher...

Mine arrived yesterday and I promptly changed out the rear sight on my G48. I've had a few sight pushers over the years and this one has worked the best.

Well here is my personal experience OP. When it comes to "inexpensive sight pusher" options, a brass punch and small hammer probably is the best tool for the job.
I'm responsible for maintaining 130 pistols (Glock 17a &19s) for my department. I have been doing all the armorer work since 2012 and have removed /installed/adjusted for zero a lot of sights. When it comes time to remove/install rear sights, although we have a nice $150 sight pusher in the armorer's tool box, I grab a brass punch and a small ball peen hammer, because it's quicker and works just as well...And at a cost of less than $20 for the set for what is likely to be in your case a seldom used tool, it probably fits your "inexpensive" criteria better than anything.
All this talk of hammering and damage that voids a warranty.....well both rear and front dovetail sights sometimes, and in the case of specality/after market replacements almost all the time, require some filing/fitting for proper install. When done correctly no sight install requires hammering or hard pushing from a mechanical sight pusher. What a sight pusher does for most people is remove the need to file/fit the sights by providing some pretty good mechanical advantage....but that doesn't make the install better or ever right. I have seen both front and rear sights damaged (tritium viles compromised) when using a sight pusher and a hammer/punch without proper fitting first. It's a rare thing that requires some over the top gorilla strength, but I have seen the aftermath a time or two.
Any sight that is damaged from proper install, no matter the tool(s) used and warranty issues aside ain't worth having on a defensive pistol. And any company that won't stand behind their product when properly installed, not matter the tool used, ain't worth your business. Good luck on your purchase and install no matter the course you choose.

I have an inexpensive pusher for sale in the forum classified section. Works real well on the M&P. See the Shield sight change thread in the notable thread index at the top of this section.

Quick update.
I am still waiting for my roll pin set to come in. Which should be tomorrow. Had some time on sunday to work on the pistol so figured why not work on the slide. Installed the apex striker block/spring and the sights.
I paid $35 shipped for this pusher that worked on both front/rear sights.
Gotta say it was worth the money imo. The original sights came right off without any kind of ding/scratch. Decided to try my luck and not file the new sights at all and see if they would go on. Went right on without any issue.
This pusher did not leave any marks on my M&P slide. Infact i didnt put anything inbetween the tool and slide just to see what kind of markings i would get. Nothing.
That being said, 2 things using this pusher for the install
-For the Apex parts, i had to cut the provided talon tool in order to clear my pusher. worked like a charm.
-installing the sights was super easy. Using a vise/punch i can see being alot easier for final adjustments. Got alittle annoying pulling the slide out to measure, adjust, measure.
Nice thing about the pusher is i didnt need a vise. I did the install sitting in my room watching tv.

I’ve got 2 sight pushers. Ones a Williams and I don’t know what other is.
I bought Williams 40yrs ago. I have several diameters of brass rod and have small “over bite” filed in them to keep them from jumping off the sight.

I think the words sight pusher and inexpensive dont go together unless you have really really cheapo guns.
I have a sight-tool gen 4 from Amazon, little expensive but worth every penny. Drifted sights on Turnbull blued guns and would not have attempted that any other way.

Sight Tool
I have the NCStar and it has never failed me. I have used it for 4 or five different pistol makes and it works well. I have learned to be patient and take it slow.
