I tested my new Alpha Wolf barrel for the M&P Shield 40. It functioned well and zero failures with HST ammo.
Accuracy appeared very good but I didn’t do a strict accuracy test yet. My main test was chrono graphing the loads to compare the velocity increase. The results were great:
180gr HST
OEM 3.1” barrel: 930 fps, 346 ft-lbs
Alpha Wolf 3.7” barrel: 1002 fps, 402 ft-lbs
For comparison:
Underwood 180gr ammo (rated 1100fps in 4” barrel)
OEM 3.1” barrel, 1021 fps, 417 ft-lbs
Didn’t test the Alpha Wolf yet with Underwood ammo
That’s a 16% increase in energy over the OEM barrel and puts me over 400 ft-lbs for the small sized Shield. Also, the 3.7” barrel gets me about the same velocity as shooting full power Underwood ammo out of the OEM 3.1” barrel. Less energy, recoil, and cost with factory HST ammo. I like the look too with the longer barrel. Looks more proportional with the extended magazine.
