That's alot of models. Are any of these limited editions, dealer exclusives, or just unpopular models?

Default Discontinued M&P pistols.

After going thru the list I went to S&W site expecting nothing to be left, there still some. Is this a pare down before new releases or a dying product line?

"11705 M&P 45 Shield M2.0 No Thumb Safety Blk .45 Auto 3.3in 7rnd SF"

I googled this one and it says its MA compliant.
So what extra does Massachusetts require that makes it different from the others??

Nearly all of the models on the list look like S&W is culling the 1.0 models and getting rid of models in .40S&W and with Crimson Trace lasers.

Pistols without manual safeties must have 10-pound triggers in Massachusetts.

From the description of the model:
Quote:
Features
• 10 lb. Trigger Pull
• Massachusetts Compliant

They did have a LOT of Shield variants though. Thinning the heard doesn't seem too outlandish. I mean between 1.0s, 2.0s, red laser, green laser, thumb safety, no thumb safety, MA compliant, regular sights, Fiber Optic, night sights, Performance Center, LE packages, optics cut, long slide, short slide. It was kinda ridiculous.

S&W went through a similar phase back in the 1990's with their 3rd generation metal receiver pistols. It became a model of the month deal and they actually produced charts and, I think, a wheel to help customers figure out which model they wanted.

Kind of like Sig did a while ago. They would have one gun and offer it in 10 different designer colors. Costly to keep up, and if its not popular, caliber or otherwise, game over.

You can add the M&P 357 and M&P 357 Compact in 357SIG to your list of discontinued pistols.
I have an M&P 357c that I bought new in 2009. It came in a hard case with Trijicon Tritium sights, three back straps and three 10 round magazines.
Later I bought two extra 15 round magazines with X-Grips. I also have a 40 S&W barrel and a 9mm barrel for it with five 12 and 17 round 9mm magazines with X-Grips .
It's a very versatile gun.

It looks like M&P subcompact got pruned instead offering 3.6” in compact.

9mm models 13010 (MA), 12481 (NTS) and 12482 (TS) are still on the S&W website.

The 222000 M&P22 FS?

They haven't been able to keep up with demand for that. Took me awhile to get one a while back.

A quick check at the website confirms the full size is not there while the compact still is. Hopefully they replace it with a 2.0 and/or domestically produced pistol.

Bought the 11809 M&P 9 Shield M2.0 No Thumb Safety Blk 9mm Luger 3.1in 8rnd SF August last year at Academy, only one 9mm they had at the time. Thought it was strange it didn't even show up on their online catalog! Seemed like it was old stock!

206301. Hmmm, I can see discontinuing the "odd birds", but this was the flagship for the platform. I guess it got superseded by the 2.0

Great! I finally decide to give 40 S&W a shot, fall in love with my new 4" 2.0 40 S&W, and one of the next guns I had my sights on (2.0 Subcompact) is being discounted.

I guess it's time to start watching the Gen 5 Glock 40s. I was anticipating the 2.0 Subcompacts to be closer to Glock 26/27/33 size anyway. I know a lot of people don't like the baby Glock grips, but the 26 is probably my all time favorite pistol.

I have been looking for a G22.5 since its release last October.

I don't think you bought an MA compliant Shield in Texas. That specific sku# is for the MA compliant version.

A lot of the firearms on that list are MA compliant pistols. S&W must not see enough incentive in selling pistols in MA anymore.

The same thing happened in California a few years back when I used to live there. S&W announced that it was not worth producing M&Ps that were CA compliant anymore.

When I left a few years ago, the only M&Ps you could buy new at a shop were 1.0 Shields.

The reason S&W stopped selling M&P's in CA was because of the timing of the state suddenly applying the microstamping law to new guns submitted for the Roster.

As it was explained to me by someone from S&W (in an armorer class), the state felt that there came a point when the newer model M&P's had received enough revisions to qualify them as "new" models, and therefore they needed to meet the microstamping requirements for new models being placed on the Roster. S&W decided they weren't going to make guns with microstamping. (Like Ruger decided, at the same time.)

Fortunately, the Shield 9/.40's (and the SD models) had already been submitted in time, in their most current revised form, to slip onto the Roster ahead of the new application of the microstamping law. So, they made it onto the Roster and could be renewed each year. That's the same reason no SW1911's or SW1911E's remained on the Roster, as the ever-revised models and newly introduced new models would've been required to incorporate microstamping (and mag safeties, larger loaded chamber indicators).

The funny thing is that the original M&P (first) generation of pistols seem to have become special order guns for LE, unless they can be talked into ordering the 2.0 versions. The CHP here in CA specifically chose the original models for their M&P 40/40C's, and not the 2.0 models, for example. My former agency chose the original M&P 9, .40 & .45 models, until they started adding the M&P 9 2.0 Compact to new orders.

Kind of like how Glock still ships a lot of Gen3 guns to CA for retail customer sales, but wouldn't incorporate the required changes the state wants to have the Gen4/5 (including 42/43 & variants models) accepted on the Roster. They'd have to incorporate mag safeties, microstamping and more obvious loaded chamber indicators. So, only LE can buy them new using their peace officer exemption. (This may change if the supreme court ever decides to agree to hear a case challenging the Roster that's been languishing in DC for a couple of years.)
