Default aguila colibiri powderless 22lr ammo

Anyone have any experience with this ammo? I saw an ad for it at $149 per case of 5000. It has a 20 grain bullet and only the rim primer, no powder. It is recommended for revolvers only since it will not work the action of an automatic. I am just a bit curious if it will propel the bullet all the way through a 26 inch barrel of my old 22 rifle? I imagine it will be ok in a 2 inch model 34.

I have been using both the Colibri and the Super Colibri for decades

The Colibri needs to be tested in any rifle, but the projectile will leave the barrels of 75%+ of them

Super Colibri is the same concept but with more priming compound.

I use these when teaching novices that have fears of muzzle blast and recoil. It is a great way to start off a new shooter, even children

These also work fantastic in the old pump rifle or as some folks used to call them gallery rifles. Also they make great companions to bolt action 22 rifles

They are as quiet as a pellet rifle and the Super Colibri is great against garden pests.

I sure would love to know who has these in stock, I only have about 2/3 of a case remaining and my usual source is out

Send me a PM

I shot one of the Super Colibri through my 4" Rossi M70 revolver in my shop, just to try it out. I shot the inside of a piece of 16" heavy wall pipe that was split down the middle (half-pipe) from about 20 feet. It flattened the little 20gr pellet out to a little jagged-edged lead disc about the size of a dime. The report was just a little less than a 22 short - about like one of my wax loads with a shotgun primer.

I shot a lot of the standard Colibri out of a 16 inch barreled CZ Scout carbine with all making it out the barrel, but would hesitate using them in a longer barrel. There are warnings on the box to not use in rifles.

For rifles the Super Colibri would be better.
I've shot both and have got decent accuracy.
You might get more responses if you post this in the ammo subforum.

$149 for a case? Wow!!! Before the shortage they were $4.49/box of 50. I bought a case about 10 years ago and have several bricks left.
In any gun I've tried them they give nice groups then throw fliers -- consistently. I wish I knew how to sort out the ones that go out of the groups.

I like to take a box or two on hikes so I can stop and do some plinking without making a lot of noise. Here's the gun I use. Many a beer or soda bottle has died to it along the banks of the Mighty Mississippi. The glass goes into the water to become Ocean Glass, I think they call it.

They exit the barrel 75% of the time? Wow, great stuff.

They are used to train people who are afraid of muzzle blast? I thought 22LR is used for that? Something new every day.

Used as directed by the manufacturer, the round works great. Colibri was made for short barrels, Super Colibri for long barrels. Which is what he said in the post.

I know, hard to imagine anyone being afraid to shoot a gun that makes any noise. Non-gunny people these, days, I'm tellin' ya.

I have a Stevens Little Scout 14 1/2 model my dad bought when he was a kid, and passed down to me. It has less than 16" barrel, and no serial number (GASP!) which I use to introduce non shooters to the sport. Colibris in that rifle, at 10 yards, with clay targets that break up when hit are a fun combo for those interested. YMMV.

My experience with Colibri is also positive. I shoot them in my Heritage Rough Rider.

Colibris are a great replacement for the old, old, old S&W Long. I shoot them from my turn of the last century Ladysmiths. You're talking 450 fps MAX.

I would not try them in a long gun. That's what Super Colibris are for.

I called the shop and they said they were sold out and the $149 per case was a typo. They sounded a bit embarrassed and had no idea when they would get others and what the price would be. The area of $490 per case would be more in the ballpark. What a disappointment.

Thought Colibri made just cigarette lighters. Ammo sounds like a waste.

It's cool stuff. I keep a handful of box's around for pest control, and some revolver plinking. I would hae been all over it at the price in the original post.
