Default Night Sights for a 22lr S&W M&P Compact?

I'm finding my S&W Compact 22lr with threaded barrel is getting a lot of use in low light situations. In fact about 15 minutes ago (past midnight) it claimed another problem possum.

So far, my accuracy has been pretty good but, tonight I could not see the front sight but, still made a good shot placement thanks to good technique.

At this point, I want to add at least a tritium front sight to add more precision to my shots. In the past two weeks the little Sigma has taken two dogs and two possums which is more than I can say for my 9mm or 45ACP.

Is the slide milled for the same sights as the centerfire Sigmas? What are the better cost-effective 'night sights' for this little pistol?

TIA,
Sid

There is no such thing as a Sigma .22, so I can only presume that you're referring to the M&P22 Compact, which requires its own specific sights.

So if you want sights for the M&P22 Compact, then you need to shop for sights which are designed for the M&P22 Compact.

Yes, I believe you are correct.

In the future, you may want to confirm the model of your firearm prior to asking such a question, because if there were a Sigma 22, and you own an M&P22 Compact, then any information you received would have been unusable, and if you had gone so far as to purchase sights for a Sigma 22 (again, if such a thing actually existed) then you might end up sights that are incompatible with your M&P22 Compact.

I myself have made the mistake of buying things based on memory when I really should have double-checked first. In my early days when I first got into shooting, I bought a bunch of the wrong ammunition, (.410 Bore 3" Shells for a firearm only chambered for 2.5" Shells) and I couldn't return it either.

As you noted, it was an easy oversight that you spotted. The model I actually own is no longer in production though so, that may have been part of the problem as it was an early example when threaded barrels were not an option. I remember I had to order some part from German Sport Guns to make it work with a thread pitch adapter as well but, that was easily over 10 years ago.

To be honest, I never considered spending >$50 for a front sight on such a cheap pistol but, things have a way of changing over time. That's part of the reason I posted an inquiry on a specialty forum like this versus burning my credit card with someone like Optics Planet with an easy return process.

I'm curious why you're shooting dogs and possums. Are they a threat or nuisance?

I've had dogs kill a newborn calf and I have had aggressive dogs attack me on my property. My farmhouse is on 40 acres. I also have had dogs kill over 100 chickens in one night and they killed all my geese after raiding the nests for eggs and goslings.

The last two dogs were trying to kill my two cats on my porch which was a surprise when I opened the front door as the cats normally have run for cover when anyone or anything but I am around.

The possums are a real nuisance and are destructive to my house and vehicles. They are almost as bad as raccoons but, the coyotes seem to keep them at bay.
