Question Anyone have the PC 4 inch Optic Ready Shield?

Looking for info about the optic. It has a removable cover, but you would not carry it concealed that way. So, does the red dot stay on all the time? How long does the battery last? The S&W website has no information about it other than the size of the dot.

I think this is the optic on said pistol:

Shield Mini-Sight – SHIELD SIGHTS

It auto adjust brightness to ambient light.
It has 2-3 year battery life in use. If you put the cover on or store it in darkness the battery is good for four years.
To switch it completely off you would remove the battery.

Thanks much. That is the information I wanted. $700 to 800 is a lot of money to spend on something just to see if it works for me, but I have done it several times before.

Unlike the majority, I prefer .40 caliber.

I fell for the.45 version... Nice enough site, but I don’t see carrying a pistol with the protective cover on the red dot. I’m not crazy about the lack of manual switch and controls on the SMS, but haven’t had any chance to try it on a range yet. At any rate, eventually I hope to put on a Holosun 507k whenever the maker finally starts filling dealer orders; one day in a green reticle version, I hope.

Different issue, for me, though. I can live with everything but the trigger. I had my hopes up after reading a number of reviews praising the Performance Center trigger. To be fair, I have only got a couple hundred dry fires, haven’t had the time to tear it down, clean it up and add special magic lubrication. And sometimes a substantial break in is necessary to settle in a trigger and other functions. But — the first person to look at it after I got it winced when they pulled the trigger. Much as I did. The second friend to drop by didn’t actually handle it, but when I took up the slack of the initial stage preparing to dry fire he was standing about 8 feet away. He said “That doesn’t sound good “.

I hope it smooths out quick. I’d be inclined toward an Apex trigger drop-in kit but I would need to call them as I’m not sure they have a trigger for my particular model and caliber. Heck, I’m inclined toward an Apex trigger anyway, although I have only fired one full size M&P with their kit.

This one should work.

I'd contact S&W about the trigger. I have the 9mm version. the trigger is very good; far better than the original Shield or full-size M&P trigger. I also have a standard Shield in .45 ACP. The trigger is also on-par with the 4" Performance Center 9mm.

To answer the RDS questions some had, it is a Shield RDS. It remains on at all times, and the battery will last at least a couple of years without the cover in place. With the cover, it is said to last up to four years. I keep mine covered when not in use, but do not use the cover when I'm carrying the gun. As was said above, it auto-adjusts for light level.

I've been hoping to get a Holosun 407K, but that will be for my 365 XL. I'm quite happy with the Shield RDS. It appears to be a quality made red dot, and has stood up well to my carry style (IWB at 3:00)

I bought the 9mm version a few months ago and did a review in this forum of it. Do some searching and you should find it. I found it to be worth every penny, as did a friend of mine who got one as a retired/off-duty (he's commissioned again as an extra help part-timer). The comments on the trigger from "Anejo" are surprising - mine has been great. Also - it is not carried with the cover on it. That's for storage.

I’m looking to sell my Shield 2.0 4” PC ported with shield optic. It has apex trigger and it’s 8 months old. Great gun, never missed a beat. Has around 2500 rounds thru it.

Thumbs up Just shot my new 4" 40 Shield 2.0 with 4 inch barrel

Fired only 2 partial mags. Mag springs a very stiff and difficult to load without a mag loader. It shot fine. I think I'm going to like it and it will replace my Glock 48 as my EDC. I'll bet you don't see many like this one.

If it's a great gun, why are wanting to sell it?

You’re right it is a great gun and very accurate but I’ve struggled with the grip being small. I’ve tried a hogue sleeve and it is better but I can’t get as accurate (or fast) a shot from an IWB holster when compared to my friends M&P 9.
Been around the block with different suggestions but I’m just not comfortable with the grip...so moving on.

I've got the PC 9mm version, nice pistol but not a fan of removing the red dot to change the battery. What's involved with swapping to the HOLOSUN 507K? Having the slide milled?

I’ve had six RDS. All required removing the unit from the slide to change the battery. Not once (maybe 15x) did a sight require re-zeroing. It was about a five minute maintenance process once a year.

The 507k has the same front to back dimensions as the Shield RDS as long as there are no recoil bosses in the slide cut.
