Default Thinking About Selling The Bodyguard 380 + RANT

My Son Picked this Stainless Engraved Bodyguard 380 up during the pandemic just to have a small pocket gun..
Now We got a 380EZ & also have a 2.0 9mm Shield 7/8 rounder + I have a couple Hk USP Compact 40s as far as handguns go.
Thinking about putting the Bodyguard 380 up on Armslist Locally for $350..??
The size of the little gun is the thing, It's just so handy of a size & weight..
If I keep it I will want a Hogue Grip & more than likely the Galloway Precision Santiago Short Stroke Trigger Kit Too!!
That's spending a lot of money that could just go toward a Better Unit for say..?? Glock 42? Maybe?

SIG P365 has been talking to me too!! Darn Little German 9mm

Most little 380s are finicky to say the least because of the ammo quality mostly other by design being blowback etc.
I've had a Walther PPK/S, Grendel P-10, Colt PocketLite 380 etc. & every one of them had troubles.. The 380EZ is the 1st 380 I've ever seen that's been 100% so far with both of them I've owned.. So Easy to Operate & Load almost like a 22lr..
I sure miss my old Ruger MKII 6 7/8" Target Model..

I was hoping almost that someone would talk me out of selling the M&P Bodygaurd 380. it's small & Handy but so is my Shield 9mm, BUT I have 300 380s for EZ now..

BUT Another 380 EZ Came along for $359OTD.. With Safety BTW..

Sons Birthday is later this Month BTW, been thinking about some goodies to get him Aug 26th?? LH Holster or the 380EZ??
This unit looks nice & is really inexpensive to boot + available Left Handed..

Here's a couple of size comparison pics with the .380 Bodyguard and Sig P365. The BG is considerably less bulky, but the advantages are mostly realized with pocket carry. Which IMHO is the only real strength of the BG.

I still have both, but the BG only gets carried when nothing else will work.

Thanks Rodan!!

I should take a Picture of the Shield 2.0 next to the Bodyguard 380.
I've wanted one of those SIGs since I first saw them a couple years ago
Pricey but includes X-Ray night sights..
Doubt it would give me anything I don't already have.. Just a Couple more Rounds in the magazine..
I'm trying to talk myself out of the SIG Too!! "I Don't Need It!" WANT!!

Sorry my Wife just fell off the back porch & hit Her Head & landed on the concrete below.. She's messed up.. Might have to take Her to the Hospital?? She's having a soda pop now will have to wait & See!!
Bye!

Forget the gun stuff for now. Get your wife to the hospital asap. You don't want to mess with head injuries. Mrs. swsig fell a couple of years ago and hit her head. While fortunately there was no head damage, they discovered she'd also suffered a fractured pelvis. Better to be safe than sorry!

I had a Ruger LCP 2. My Kahr K9 carried so well, I thought that I didn't need the LCP, so I sold it. After carrying the K9 on vacation for an extended time, I realized my mistake, and my need for a pocket pistol. So, I bought a Bodyguard .380. A month later, Ruger brings out the LCP Max, which I just purchased. Pocket pistols have their place. I'm sure that the EZ380 is a fine pistol, but it isn't a pocket pistol. Keep the Bodyguard!

I'll double check... thanks for the heads up.

Keep an eye on your wife... sometimes head injuries can be very serious, but still take a while to show symptoms.

More size comparisons:

Shield 9 vs. P365

Shield 9 vs. P365XL

The P365 and XL have definitely become my preferred CCW pieces. In fact I sold my Shield 9 yesterday. The P365 shoots better than the Shield, in either size, and carries more rounds. The P365 loaded with 11 rounds was 1/2 oz. heavier than the Shield with 7 rounds.

Obviously, my XL with optics is bulkier, but it shoots darn near as well as a full size gun. And with 12+1 on board, and a 15 round reload, it's a pretty potent CCW package.

Hello,
I hope all is well with your wife. Sometimes it doesn't take much to be serious.
FYI, My wife has a Shield 380 EZ because of her limited hand strength and can't Rack her Shield 9 2.0 but finds the EZ too large to carry on a regular basis. She tried my Glock 42 and LCP II but has trouble racking the Glock's slide and doesn't like the recoil of the LCP II. We were at the LGS a while ago picking up my new Shield 9 PC 4" and noticed they had a LCP Max at the rental range, she tried it out and loved it, Recoil wasn't bad and she could rack the slide fairly easily. They didn't have any for sale so we ordered one from Cabela's. I have not been allowed to shoot it yet but since she is using my 380 stash I might be able to soon. The Max pocket carries almost as easily as the LCP II and fits in the same holsters. It is always nice to have options when concealed carrying.

I purchased the BG .380 in ‘14 but had to move it along due to light strike issues. It was repaired by S&W but I’d lost confidence and don’t know if this problem was ever corrected. My Ruger LCP has been 100% for years, hundreds of rounds & fills my need for a small pocket gun.

i had a BG380 but sold it off fairly quickly. Was a few years back but I recall a heavy trigger pull and definitely remember a poor fit in my hand. To each their own however!

I’d never sell my Bodyguard. Had it since 2015. With that long heavy but smooth trigger pull it’s the best pocket pistol for me. Not to mention it’s super slim and light. I am strongly considering adding a p365 to my collection, but never to pocket carry. I’d only carry it iwb.

We have never even given the BG380 a chance really..
Read too many bad reviews mostly about light primer strikes which IMO putting the spacer on the mainspring or the extra power spring could cure that but would increase trigger pull weight slightly..

If the pistol doesn't sell for $350 I'm Gonna Buy it from Him & work on making it MY Pocket Pistol.. = Grip, Extended Range Magazine + Possibly Galloway Short Stroke Trigger Kit + Extra power mainspring & recoil spring set..

Not worth selling. It’s cheap to buy and cheap to sell. All it needs is a few upgrades to make it the perfect pocket pistol. I added talon grips. Gives it a little more grip out of the pocket and keeps it as slim as stock. Added a Maguts +1 for one more round. And XS big dot sights. I stuff it all in a Mika pocket holster. It all works perfectly along with that long heavy trigger that everyone thinks is so bad cause it’s not Glock like.
A Bodyguard 380 is a perfect example of what a pocket pistol should be.

Here’s what I learned in my quest for a reliable .380: Most of them will fail at some point so IF you have one that’s 100% don’t sell it. My Ruger LCP hasn’t choked with hundreds of rounds of FMJ & SD ammo so I kept it w/the idea of occasional carry. Now, especially in the warm weather, it’s become my EDC b/c it’s so easy to shoot & conceal no matter how I’m dressed. If your gun is 100% I believe you’ll regret letting it go.

We have never even shot this Bodyguard because of 380 ammo price & availability but have 200-300 LAX 95gr in the ammo stash

I have it loaded up laying here as a paperweight now..

You are right about regrets Old cop, I have regretted selling every firearm I have ever sold one way or another.. The grass is always greener on the other side..

Happy upcoming Birthday Llance

WOW!
Those of you that own these SMALL pistols must have some very small hands! I can't even get 3 fingers comfortably on ANY kind of Shield.

i'll never sell my BG380, no 9mm is anywhere near as thin. the 365 is a brick compared to the BG380. it can sit in my pocket and know one suspects it. i have a Shield+ for most everything else and the little 380 can still come along...

And carrying an extra mag for the 365 adds another brick to your opposite pocket, compared to an extra BG mag.

Pocket carry is about weight. Your talking 20 0z vs 14oz loaded. I had the P365 and always chose the BG380 for pocket carry. So I sold the P365 since it's job was pocket carry.

No. I find the BG380 grip easier than single stack 9's. I use that or double stack guns. I just never liked the single stack grips. P365 was the best of them grip wise for me. Maybe because it was a little bit wider.

Sounds like SIG needs to make a smaller striker fired P365 in 380 instead of their Colt Pocket Lite 380 Clone = P238 to compete with the Bodyguard 380..

i don,t think sig needs to build a 380 in response to the Body Guard 380. it would just be over-priced and likely a fat double stack. nobody is making thin single stack pistols right now, the market seems to be begging for higher capacity. whatever you can conceal comfortably with the highest capacity is what non Law Enforcement Carriers are looking for. i am usually carrying my Shield+, sometimes my G36. but if i am going somewhere where people might be uncomfortable if i am found to be concealing a gun, the thin little BG380 is not going to be found by anyone short of a pat-down. i have used it enough to be proficient and it has proved reliable. options for Concealed Carry are a good thing

Welcome to the Forum Oldaze
BTW that's what I call my Black Gator Pit Daisy = "Old Daze"
She's a Sweetheart BUT if anyone came in on Her WATCH OUT..

You're right about SIG, They just seem to be so proud of their merchandise especially since they won the M17/M18 Contract..
I haven't had one in about a decade now but at one time had a P220ST, P225/P6, P228/M11, P229 40/357 & P239SAS but never a polymer one..

I have even thought of getting an extra BG Frame & having it texturized by a guy on HkPro or trying my hand with the soldering Iron??

Scored an IWB LH 380EZ Holster from Amberide for my Son's Birthday + Ordered an Extra Magazine for him too, These 380EZ magazines are made of Unobtanium lately = Every Body Wants One.. Sold Out Everywhere.. HOT Item..
The Holster Looks fantastic + Cost Less than $20 w/ Free S&H..
It's hidden in the safe for now..
Smith & Wesson M&P 380 Shield EZ - IWB KYDEX Holster | Amberide

This is a perfect CCW combo. Carry one or the other depending on clothing or location. Carry both if needed as well and still discreet and comfortable to do so as well.

Not a 380 kind of guy, at least didn’t used to be.
But recently bought Rugers LCP Max for a pocket piece.
The Gun works fine, but That 380 Ammo is really hard to find!

Nice of Ruger to give you a pocket holster with their handgun..
Much better than the zipper day planner thingy that S&W gives with the BG380s,
Something a Guy Could Use...
S&W are you Listening?
