Have you tried working it back and forth a million times? (Modern day “fitting.” ) Just sell it and buy something that works. JMHO.

Boil it in a pot nutria gumbo for a couple of hours.....OR,
Put a couple of drops of lube on the safety, and while watching TV, taking a dump, or whatever, just keep working it. It will loosen up eventually. The bodyguard is a good little pistol no matter what others say about it. Never had any issues with mine what-so-ever.

I can't say as the safety on mine is overly stiff. It has loosened up just a bit. I do wish it were larger.

Mine is stiff too, I get used to it. It’s my go to pistol. I carry it more than any other pistol.

Your safety must work the way you need it to on a carry gun. Since this is a common problem, it is a design/manufacturing mistake by S&W. That’s a warranty issue.
The best way to fix this is to have those responsible for causing the problem fix it. If S&W gets hurt in the pocket $$ enough through numerous warranty returns, they will fix the issue so it doesn’t occur. Complaints are not enough. Warranty expenditures lead to changes.
Send it back, or get rid of it.

As stated above, give it some oil and work it ALOT.
My BG 380's safety is almost unusable due to the stiffness.
That is not an issue with me because I don't use it and consider it a blessing (it will never go on accidently).
The gun is double action only, so like a revolver a good holster (pocket or otherwise) will keep it safe while carrying it.
I always refer to it as a revolver in a pistol body.
The safety is so small (even if it works easily) that under stress you stand a good chance of not being able to disengage it when needed. JMO
Wanted one without a safety but none were available and at $233 I couldn't pass it up.
P.S. I love mine! Ammo used was 50/50 carry and target.
I carry Precision One 90gr HP/XTP AIWB

Mine is stiff but a sweep of the thumb and it comes off. S&W is weird with safeties. I want them on a semi auto, particularly a striker fired one, but they’re either too tiny and flush like on the Bodyguard, or obnoxiously big like on the Compact and full size models. The one in the Shield is pretty good, but I just wish there was a bit of a ledge on the edge of it to get a more positive contact. With all the aftermarket options available for guns nowadays, and some companies existing solely for upgrades, where you can get triggers. magazine releases, striker plates with Punisher logos, oversized slide stops, and everything else under the sun, I don’t understand why they don’t have slightly larger safeties for these guns, especially a one sided and slightly smaller safety for the Compact and full size guns. I’d more than likely change the ones on every M&P I have.
The one on my Ruger LC9S is perfect. The one on the SR9 was great too. Not too big, not too small, and a nice positive click to turn on and off. The big ones on the M&P Compact and full size are kind of mushy. No good authoritative click at all.

OP/CajLaw : Not including the stiff safety, how do you like the BG 380? I know some complain about a long, heavy trigger pull but I am used to DA/SA and DAO SW 3rd generation pistols so I don't think it would bother me too much. How reliable and accurate? Lastly, is your pistol recent production or an earlier version. Thanks.
