M&P .40
I’ve been looking for a .40, being I have a bunch of ammo and only a PCC in .40.
I ran into a used full size M&P with one mag for $250. It has some “character” but nothing major.
Am I better of looking for a 2.0 or a different platform or will the original suffice. Only a range gun, not CC.

If it's mechanically sound you can't go wrong for $250. Take it.

Google "LE TRADE INS" and you might find something better than what I posted.
GOOD LUCK!

If you are limited on funds, or if the idea behind this purchase would be to obtain a pistol for using the ammo you already have at as low of a price point as possible, I would say that the pistol you are looking at would suffice. On the other hand, if spending a bit more wouldn’t hurt you too badly, and/or you are ultimately hoping to obtain a pistol that stands a very strong chance of becoming one of your favorites, I would strongly encourage you to buy an M2.0 version.
Having owned both, I will go so far as to say that while the original M&P is a serviceable pistol, the M2.0 is simply in another league altogether. Many people focus only on the greatly improved trigger of the newer gun, but the differences go so much further than that and to hold both pistols side by side those differences become apparent.
For me, the original M&P was always a pistol that served as something that I would shoot when I just wanted a change of pace from the Glock, and SIG Sauer pistols that were my personal/home defense guns at the time. The M2.0 replaced them. I find the M2.0 to be a far more refined handgun than the original, and feel that it compares favorably against ANY of the popular pistols on the market.
It’s all a matter of what you want to do with the pistol, and what you want to spend. But for me, the conversation regarding which M&P pistol to buy begins and ends with the M2.0 models.

I have an M&P40 FS LEO trade in, got it for $250. I’m leaving this gun stock.
I also have a Shield40 2.0 which is my EDC and I prefer the 2.0 trigger.
so if you want a gun for just shooting or as a backup then an M&P40FS would be my choice, guns cheap used mags cheap.

I recently purchased my first .40 pistol, a Brinks trade-in M&P40. I paid $269 for it and was pleasantly surprised at the condition of it. I'm still deciding if I like the caliber but I do like the gun. Now I need a .45 M&P.

I have an unissued LE FS .40 that I paid 350 for, it has night sights but the trigger was terrible. Probably why it was not issued. I put an Apex forward sear trigger in it and I love this thing. It is very accurate and has an amazing trigger in it.

I've had a M&P 40FS 1.0 for many years. It has never failed in any way, the trigger is good and it is accurate. Whenever I travel it is in the Maxpedition bag that is in the truck and goes into the hotels I stay at. I trust our lives with it. BTW Missus MD knows how to operate it too.

If you are a “trigger geek,” I would avoid the original M&P, but that really is the only reason why. It’s a good quality weapon and you shouldn’t have any trouble with it.
Mine is reasonably accurate with ammo it likes, and it does have distinct preferences. The only thing I really miss on the 1.0 versus the 2.0 is the 2.0’s grip texture, which I like a lot. You can put a rubber grip sleeve on the 1.0 and that will help with hanging on to the gun in recoil, but not as much as the 2.0’s more aggressive texture. JMHO.
So, yeah, at $250 it seems like a fair deal to me. I still have my very early 1.0 in .40SW, with stock trigger, and it is still on-duty around the house. Night sights are shot now, and probably will not be replaced. It’s fine as-is.

Did you buy the M&P for $250, or did you go a different route?

I have to wait until Sat. if it’s still there. I work 8-6 and the shop is open 10-6.
Not late hours.

I can't shoot mine very well. I've replaced the trigger works and added a laser, but they didn't help. Probably it doesn't fit my hand very well. I tried trading it in but it isn't worth much now. Hope you have better luck with yours.
