Default M&P PLUS

Hi all just wondering if any of you that own a M&P Shield Plus have had this happen while at the range three different sessions this happen once each range session I had a unintentional double tap meaning the second shot was unexpected I was firing semi fast 5 shot groups and the third or fourth shot was as I getting back on target don't know if I was putting pressure on the trigger (Would think I would have to be) the trigger pull is very light don't have a scale can't check it my friend thought almost a hair trigger it is gone to be my EDC I am use to the Shield 1.0 so it could just be me just wondering if any of you hade similar experience ?
Thanks

I don't own the Shield Plus but have experienced the same with other brands with a light trigger pull. It's kind of embarassing when that happens as one thinks they're in control and it boils down to being sloppy. My Bersa BP9cc is my main offender. Also, If you're shooting other guns in your range session one tends to forget "this is the bad boy".

As others have said; the lite trigger is the cause. While it has never happened to me with any M&P, I have had it happen with a Browning HP and 1911 with lite triggers...Those triggers were promptly replaced with heavier trigger pulls...
FWIW: In all of my M&P's, I replaced the trigger springs to give me a heavier trigger pull averaging about 6/7 lbs.

My Shield+ PC has a factory trigger of 4 - 4.25 lbs. Never had that issue. I did have a 1911 Colt Gov't Special Combat .45 with a trigger that was 2 lbs and had it do that several times.

Yep- it happens- with mine anyway. S&W says that is the way it is tuned, from the factory. I will leave this here. Irmnut, thanks for your original post.

I think it depends on which trigger technique you were taught, have developed, or prefer. If you hold the trigger back all the way through recoil, this should not happen. If you release the trigger immediately the shot goes and start to take up the slack before the recoil is done, I can see how you could get unexpected doubles.

I have over 4k rounds through my Shield+ and I would say it’s happened but with a caveat: There’s no doubt that my pressure on the trigger caused the unplanned doubletap. It’s happened maybe three or so times and it’s my job to revise my technique so it doesn’t happen again.

I have two Performance Center Shield Pluses. Both have triggers that break between 3.25 and 3.5 pounds. They are fantastic.

I also have a standard Shield Plus with night sights. The trigger is heavier. However, I no longer have a way to measure the pull.

Not with my plus but it has with my custom 1911's. It has always been my momentary lack of trigger control not a gun issue

I had a Gen 1 Shield and I have a Shield Plus now. The Shield Plus has a lighter trigger than the Gen 1, but I never had any problems like this with either pistol.

Went to the range today. Took my Shield Plus PC and my Glock 43X for some range time. Ammo was both, Blazer 115Gr aluminum case and Winchester White Box 124 Gr FMJ. 50 rounds each. Both shot well. Good groups all from 12 yards. I found the Shield Plus an easier shooter with easier recoil and better groups. That said: My Shield Plus PC, the short reset trigger was too short for my liking. Yep, to the point, a bit scary. I'm a 30+ year Vet with 4 Combat Tours. I think I can relate to a defensive handgun. With that, if carrying as a CCW, I would worry as the follow-up shot is I'm my opinion- just too short/quick. I know that the trigger on a most part Defensive weapon is important- indeed the reliability of the weapon is important as well. I'm in my 60's now, I carry everywhere. I could be be on horseback, on my tractor or at the feed store- I just need a weapon that I can go to in defense of me and family and not worry- if anything, if the trigger will get me in trouble. Some may think my views on the trigger of the Shield Plus PC are in question: Your opinion is important and as a gun owner I surely value them. I am in conversation with S&W now. This Shield Plus is benched at the moment. I await S&W: My 3914 is always ready for service.

I decided to take my Shield Plus PC back to the range today. I thought I may have been riding the trigger previously which led to my issue stated above. Sure enough- I was. After a couple hundred rounds I quickly realized with the trigger in the Shield Plus being a bit lighter than other guns I shoot, was easy for me to "ride". After some further training with this gun, I have a new respect for it and can say, I was the fault and not the gun. This is my carry now and it gets ran weekly. Several hundred thru it now and a pleasure to shoot and is easily concealable. I know others have had this issue, with me, it was me. Training is paramount. Train with your carry.

Never had a problem but I will try to see if I can force it to next time I'm at the range.
