Default CH plate, gap under red dot

Hi,

I got this plate for my OR shield plus and Holosun 407, install all correctly and I still could see small gap under the front of red dot. Rear under the bolts is OK. Why CH can't make $60 plate that is working without manual mods? It is not first time I am having issues with their plates on different pistols. Their plate for Walther PDP is problematic as well. Anyway, any suggestions?

Thanks!

i read some bad reviews about chpws recently. i think some of their recent batches were bad and/or rushed. mine has the same problem. the problem here is that the front lugs are just slightly too tall for the holoson optics footprint, which causes the front to raise. my only suggestion is to take pictutes and send it to them via email and hopefully they will send you a return label

So, I will return it and what would I use for reddot?

If that's the issue why not just take a file to the lugs and shorten them?

It’s not C&H… though they’ve had their own issues. It’s the slide cut on the Shield Plus. We’ve seen several pistols all with a slide cut that appears to be sloped downward toward the front with threaded holes that don’t correspond to the slope.

The few that actually **** theirs could not adjust the optic enough to account for the issue and the adjustment bottomed out with the gun still shooting around 3 inches high at 15 yards.

i think that could be done if you have the tools to do a clean job, but i prefer the precision of cnc machining.

I just finished this, besides larger front lugs I file extractor roller pin which was sticking a lot there, used perma-blue and now it is perfect. Also holes on CH plate was smaller than pins, made them little bigger. 30 min of work.

i contacted the chpws sales person, they said a slight gap is ok, but i took a file to the lugs anyway. it's important to keep it level and the same dimensions with both lugs. i sanded it a bit, torqued it down at 15 inch lbs, but some light still shone through, so i checked and noticed that one side was slightly taller and it was not even, ie front of lug was bit high. i used a small square file at first which was a mistake. i then used a flat file so i could keep things more even. now there is no light through the gap. it sits flush against the metal plate.

i do believe if light shows, eventually the added flux from there being empty space between the gun, the metal plate, and then the red dot, would lead to shearing.

i didn't file the extractor pin, i tapped it down a little more so it's flush.

CCW pistol should not be used a lot, this is not range gun making several thousands of shots. It should protect your life and will be taken by police maybe forever while investigation. It would work for this reason just fine and I got Shield because of this. I don't care about little light

a ccw should require continuous range sessions to make sure the shooter is always proficient with the specific firearm as shooting is a perishable skill. your carry gun should be the gun you are the best at. every single range session you're not using your carry gun, is you letting your skill with it diminish, and learning habits that don't apply or work against it. i will never shoot any other gun more than my carry gun because it's the one my life depends, i have to be more accurate, faster, more steady, do manipulations with it, than any other gun i have, and that takes time, and a lot of practice, both dry firing and at the range. people who want to just put their self defense gun in a drawer or holster and forget about it, then go back to playing with a bunch of guns he's never going to use outside of it being a range toy, are a liability. i don't want to be within a mile of that guy when someone bad goes down, he might accidentally shoot me instead of the intended target!

it doesn't mean thousands of rounds as I do with my CZ Shadow or 1911 or whatever pistol made for the range. Yes you need to know your firearm but 50 rounds per session or even dry fire is enough, that is not going to change or effect your red dot anyhow. Zero it in 10 shot and you are good to go.

check out end of this video for explanation why your ccw should be your most prized possession not some expendable throw away:

Picture would help, but a very slight gap near the front is fine. As long as the optic is flush at the base near the screw it will be fine.
