I'm thinking of sending my 4046 and 686 both back for a tune up at S&W performance center, and was wondering if it would be worth it if i had them polish and or bead blast them and have them engraved or laser etched. They have more sentimental value than anything else.I want to do something special for my 2 sons when they turn 21,so i figured i would give each boy a small piece of my history.Any thoughts would be great.

Can't put a price on sentimental value - only you know if it is worth it...

From where I sit and the costs likely to be involved for the value received - I'd leave them as-is.

Spend the money on a nice shotgun to go with the handguns...

YMMV
