I grabbed a 5inch Pro series 9mm today. it is just an awesome pistol. Light trigger great high viz front sight. Greta grip. I took it to the range out of the box and had 200 115 grain Wichester white box rounds. On round about 160 i had a failure to extract and a feed on top of it. I am hoping it was just a round out of spec or a fluke. rest of the ammo sailed thru it. what could have caused this?? is it mag related. Extractor and ejector looks fine. I do not want to return this pistol.

Did you clean the gun before firing it?
I'd start there, as that alone cures many "initial problems."

When you say you had "a failure to extract and a feed on top of it", did you have an empty casing in the chamber or do you mean you had a live round in the chamber?
I ask since my M&P9 Spec Ops is STILL at S&W Customer Service. Once hot it would feed a live round into the chamber with the hammer down and then the slide would lock shut. 10 minutes of cooling would allow me to cycle the slide and eject the round. Cleaning it did nothing. S&W asked for it back with an overnight call tag (and THAT took a week to receive), and I sent it to them 2 1/2 weeks ago. It has now been out of service longer than the time I have had it operational!

Sorry, it was an empty casing that did not fully extract-it was stuck halfway in and out of the barrel chamber and the next round was kind of jammed underneath it. no cleaning-just took it out of the box and fired it like i do with my Berettas and have never had any jam.

This type of malfuction ocassionally happens in new semi-autos of all brands. It could also be an issue with a particular magazine. If the feed lips are deformed or damaged a double feed may result. Mark or number your magazines and keep track of any further double feeds to see if they have one magazine in common.

Always clean a new firearm before firing. You never know what the factory may have left behind.
